I updated the software and firmware in my Magellan GPS for the Visor and its well worth it!
See http://www.magellangps.com/visordownload/

The GPS locks on to a fix much faster and more reliable (even 3D from within my house).

Here is a BIG INSTALLATION HINT they don't tell you about :
Although the mention in the readme you will have to reload the maps, they don't tell you you will lose all your NAV Companion saved data such as waypoints and routes.

There is a way to make the upgrade installation much easier without losing anything!
Just backup the c:\palm\user id\backup directory BEFORE deleting the software on the Visor and hotsyncing the first time. Then when you use the install tool to install the new versions of the software also reinstall all the MagellanDB....pdb map files and the Companion_Waypoints.pdb file plus any others you have from the backup you made earlier.

The new software fixes the soft reset issue. Only new problem I had was one crash when a datebook+ alarm popped up while I was using the GPS software.
