Question

Am I the only person, who ordered last year, waiting for the modem?

I recieved mine about 2 weeks ago. It works very well. Obviously they designed it using the basic principles of the palm type handheld: 1) small 2) simple 3) light) and 4)functional.

It works great for synching with my office pc to get e-mail on the fly.

Now, if only I could figure out a method to store it. It doesn't fit the handspring case I have. Hmm.....

Hopefully they will be sending yours in the near future.

Oy Vey.

Here the latest.

Called last night and this is what I was told.

They changed to a new database, so there is no way to check on my order from last year.

Was told to call back at the end of the month if I didn't get it by then. When she noticed that it was already the end of the month, sh said two weeks.

She says they are being shipped out as they were ordered, but some how I don't think they are. Call me a sceptic.:-)

I so want this thing before the 22nd, so I'm only giving them a week.

Question

Where can I order a modem, I called yesterday and I was told they are still under development? It would be a great asset to me if I had one!

JM,

Apperently they are shipping (very slowly) modems to those ppl who order it last year, but aren't taking any new orders until the backlog are shipped.

Red face

I just checked out the Handspring shipping information page http://www.handspring.com/shipping/shipping_status.asp and it says that all backorders have shipped and the modem is available again.

My credit card still shows the temp charge and I still haven't received the modem.

Stay tuned for more info... film at 11.

I think the modem defeats the purpose that you need to hook it up to a phone jack, instead of it being wireless... Waiting for the 6-pack...

Actually,
I don't think it's really worth being wireless right now. You can't really 'browse' with a palm yet. You just experience 'Internet Jr.' as Steve Jobs said. I think the best thing about a modem right now is the email pick-up and send, and then maybe a quick AvantGo sync to get today's news and weather. Otherwise, I don't think i want to use my visor for browsing or buying and selling stock (or books, etc).
When Apple comes out with their PDA (if you read the January 24th? issue of Fortune with the interview with Mr. Jobs, you'll see that he does mention that Apple is working on a Wireless internet device BUT it will not be released until Apple can provide the Internet and not the Internet Jr.) then maybe i'll consider browsing with a palm computer.

Until then, the modem is all i need for occasional updates!

I am happy to here others have got their modem. Now there is a group of people to answer questions.

I have not tried to synch avant go over the modem. How can I do that?

I think you're referring to the Palm VII PQA model of accessing the Web. Actually, you can really browse with the Novatell Minstrell wireless modem, available for the Palm III and V series. I don't know the the Palm III version will work on the Visor, but hopefully Novatell will release a Springboard version.

But even without full Internet access, I would be content with Glenayre's two-way pager Springboard, which can send and receive email. Moreover, since it's a pager rather than a modem-based unit, it will actually alert you when you have an email message -- something the Palm VII can't do.

Thumbs down

I guess I'm not waiting anymore.

I ordered in early December.
A couple of weeks ago, mine was "shipping".
As of today, they've invited me to try
ordering again.

I can wait for the SixPak.
