Finally, a reasonable thing to blame Canada about.

---The weather.

Where I live (near Philly), it's been cloudy the past to days, but it HASN'T been clouds. It's been smoke from forest fires in northern Quebec, being blown here by a crazy jet stream. The most amazing thing I saw was how the whole sky, and therefor everthing I could see, was tinted red, and by afternoon, the sun was a deep red.

I first noticed as I walked out of someone elses house, it was very smokey and smelled like it too. We all thought, "Oh great, I'll bet our house is on fire," and when it wasn't, I called a friend who told me he saw some statement about forest fires in Quebec causing smoky conditions here. Well, it's weird.

Anyone else notice?

Arrow Everywhere

Well the forest fires are out of control and the smoke is blanketing alot of the North East U.S and some parts of Central Canada.

Its about time the pollution goes south for a change. We get smog here in Toronto all the time because of the pollution blowing up from the border states.

We had the same sort of thing here in South Carolina in May when the Okeefenokee Swamp was ablaze. It smelled like someone was burining leaves, but the smell and smoke were everywhere. Very odd.

I'm just kidding you Canadians. I love Canada. I mean, it's still unbelievable fun to make fun of, but I think its got some of the prettiest places in the world (Banff, in my opinion, but on the other hand, I haven't been around ALL that many places).

The thing that I realize, is that if the smoke didn't get this far south, would anyone here ever have found out about it? I'm sure you Canadians are bombarded with news about our fires. . . Does anyone know anything about these fires?!? I can't find any info anywhere.

About our pollution coming up to you- sorry , I just read an article about how incinerators in Harrisburg, Pa. were causing problems in Nunavut.

hey Yardie,

I didn't know we lived in the same city?!?!

I'll have to disagree with you though...the majority of our smog comes from the 401 and QEW, but you do have a point...

as for stories about the fire, ernieba1, check out www.nationalpost.com or www.globeandmail.com (they both have some stories on the front page today....)

MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Little do you Americans realize, this is actually part of our big plot to take you over!
First we will weaken you with endless amounts of smoke till the lack of sun depresses you and gives you all asthma and then we will march down and burn down your white house (again)...All while you think we are merely happy go lucky, beer drinking Canadians...
Alex.

Go CANADA!!!!

Now if you excuse me I have to go use my inhaler...

NEWS FLASH: Canadians done in by lack of history and spelling education:

then we will march down and burn down your white house (again)

The British did it during the war of 1812 unless you guys consider yourselves 100% subjects of Her Majesty? If so, nuclear reprisals will commence in 5 seconds.

Bill Clinton wouldn't know what that is. He would, however, know what a "Inhaler" is. Or would he say he used one but did not actually inhale the medicine?

We love you guys anyway. After all, you've given us the Kids In The Hall and late on friday nites on PBS, The Red Green Show.

Re: news flash:

The Queen Elizabeth is still Queen of Canada -- so yes we are 100% subjects of her majesty -- and proud to be -- well most of us anyways.

On a funny note.. a survey was done a few weeks back that show 30% of Americans think Canada is an American State LOL.

Okay Okay, I know that it was actually the British that burnt the White House to a crisp, but for us Canadians like to pretend we did...you know, small power trip, I'm sure you've all done it once or twice in your life...

And...I did spell it Inhaler, not inhalor, that's just not right.
Alex (the Great II).

P.S. What's wrong with the British?

We all know that both the Americans and the Canadians have butchered the English that the British gave us...oh well, they don't mind.

I live in the Adirondacks. It's a region of New York State north of Albany.

Specifically a podunk called Hudson Falls, which is the epicenter of a dredging debate for the past few years, between the EPA, GE, and the general public. Basically, GE legally dumped PCB's into the Hudson River in the 1970's; the EPA wants GE to foot the bill for a Superfund dredging project that will destroy the ecosystem of the river, stir up PCBs that are buried in the riverbottom, and basically ruin GE's cleanup efforts from the past twenty years. GE is against it for obvious financial reasons; most of the public is against it because of the environmental hazard and what it will do to recreation on the river. You thought the Quebec fires were a problem ...

And my grammar lives in Arkansas.

actually, when i lived down there, i used to joke that the 2 Litre bottles of Coke were the first step. The second was the dollar coin....

I'll probably be hanged for treason by telling you all this, but when you see milk being sold in 1 Litre bags....it a sign for all Canadians down there to take up arms as we're storming the border!!

They may have given it to you, but it was forced upon us (also by the local Texiens in the 1920s, so it's not only you lot).

Not that you're taking sides. .. . The name rings a bell, I think I've driven through there, or near there, a few times. Anything there that would remind me (landmark, roads, etc.)?
