Another new keyboard (actually shown with a Visor)

Got this in an email from TechRepublic this morning (snipped for content):

Another mini keyboard slated for release this year, the Etherage ClipKee, clips onto a Palm, Visor, or Windows CE device and features a scroll wheel. A second version, the ClipKee Nomad, is also in the works. Nomad will integrate wireless via 802.11b and/or a CF expansion slot.

I purchased the Fellowes KB and have been using it for a week or so. Impressions are as follows:

1. When held flat- on a table or even a lap, index finger keypunching works fairly well. At least for me it's faster than graffti and more accurate;

2. The case seems like it protects the unit well. One objection is that the locking mechanism tends to open and on occassion you need to squeeze it a bit to get the kb to invoke ( this sounds worse than it is and doesn't happen often).

3. I'm getting some strange screen leftover "garbage" on occassion when using Handbase or Bonsai. If, however, you go out and back in, the screen seems to refresh fine.

4. From a value standpoint, for $100 it's not at all cheap - albeit it includes a case.

5. The "Go" button does not seem to function on my unit at all in any application that it should support;

6. The "menu" button is poorly placed and it includes a simple launcher, but it can only display ALL installed programs - might have some utility if you could choose the programs you wanted.

7. Battery drain appears minimal.

8. It's size allows it to have more single stroke keys than any of the pending Thumb KB's I think, which I guess is some advantage.

9. Speaking of size, don't expect to carry in your pocket unless you wear overalls or a flight suit. For me that's not an issues, but obviously for some it will be.

Regarding the problems I noted above, I've contacted Tech support and they'll be sending me a new unit - I'll at least find out if I've got some defective unit or that's just the way it is.

Overall, it's worked about as well as I had expected. I'll be keeping it and using until at least one of the thumb KB's gets released.

I also own a Stowaway KB that I had since it was first released that is great for more involved typing...but not as convenient as this for a quick note or two.

Follow-up to my Fellowes Post

FYI...I failed to mention what might be a major consideration on this KB for some - namely that no Springboard modules can be used. I personally only use the back-up module so no problem for me, but if you do employ a module and want to use it with a KB, look elsewhere.
