I really wish that somebody offered such a service! I mostly use my Visor around town, and have easy access to a desktop computer and Internet. So it's a bit wasteful for me to always pay for wireless service. But i would love to be able to _rent_ it for a few days when i travel occasionally.

After all, cell phone rentals are commonplace now. Do you think the same companies will offer PDA wireless service for rent? If anyone starts this as their business, don't forget to give me some stock for coming up with the idea

Heck, I don't even want to rent a PDA, but renting wireless connectivity would be a WONDERFUL idea. I don't travel much, but I'd like to ba able to choose coverage. In my mind, a small boutique in airports that would provide wireless PDA modems would be perfect...Leave a deposit, be charged by the ammount it is used and I'd be a happy camper

Are you listening Yada Yada, Omnisky and anyone else?

What I'd like to see is a no-cost or very low-cost service with per-hour connect charges similar to the early days of, say, AOL (gasp!). That way, I could use wireless if and when I needed it but would not have to pay a hefty monthly fee for mostly idle time.

i'm not too impressed with the 40 or 50 dollar/month charges for wireless access that all the providers are offering for PDA's.

I signed up for Palm.net today on my 7x and i'm using the Basic 9.99/month plan which give me 50KB/month. at first i thought this would be used up in about a half hour or so . but then i started playing with some pqa apps and realized that a lot of them only require 200 bytes!! to 500 bytes per 'transaction'. The only really large files are news articles, etc. which i get whenever i update my avantgo. In other words, I've been using my 7x all day demonstrating various pqa apps and i've moved around 1.5KB of data!! I KNOW i won't be using it this extensively every day.

What i'm trying to say is: i'm impressed with pqa apps. i used to think that it was a 'limited internet' but i think they're great! They let you get information that you need at minimal KB movement.

Although the other providers can use pqa apps (i think?) it's unfortunate that they don't have cheaper plans set up for those of us who don't use it everyday or don't have to wirelessly download the Encyclopedia Britannica every few hours!
