Fast Repy from TT-Tech.

Frank,
I can't believe that you got a reply from TT-Tech the same day you emailed them. I emailed them last week about whether the SNT would work with the Minstrel S, but have yet to get a reply.
Shame Bernard did not really answer your question, and just told you that it works on the visor phone and thinmodem. It would be nice to get a definate answer, one way or the other.

I am still waiting for visorcentral to reveiw all these new mini-keyboards. Now that is the review to read!

Talking ThumBoard Works with ThinModem!!

I finally figured out how to make the ThumBoard work with ThinModem. Frank, there is hope:

quote:
Frank Motta said, "I liked all that the ThumBoard offered - It won't let me use the Minstrel S wireless modem - I got it to type emails.
Can't do that....."

Here's how I was able to do it:

1. Remove ThinModem from SpringBoard slot.
2. Place Visor Deluxe into the ThumBoard.
3. Turn on the Visor with ThumBoard.
4. Place ThinModem into SpringBoard slot.
5. ThumBoard operates as normal, and ThinModem operates as normal.

One note, do not turn the Visor off with the ThumBoard on/off button. For some reason, when the ThinModem is connected to the SpringBoard, the on/off button causes the ThumBoard to disconnect from the Visor port, and you cannot reestablish the connection until you remove the ThinModem. When you hit the on/off button, the ThumBoard causes the Visor Deluxe to try to hot sync.

At least I can use my ThumBoard to receive and reply to emails.
WooHoo!

Here is a reply from Seiko:
HandSpring, in their testing of the TB6000, assured us that the Visor Phone
and the popular modems will work. However, if you have been experiencing
difficulty, please give us the details of your situation so that we can
report it to our engineers and to HandSpring. If there is a conflict, we
need to fix it.

And one more reply:
hanks for the input. This is a issue of grave concern for us and we
appreciate your help. Unfortunately, I do not know when we can find
resolution of this. It is too early in the game to make ant predications or
even speculate what the issue is. It may be software correctable, but it
may not. I apologize for any inconvenience.

So, looks like they will try to fix this problem and thumboard will work fine with visorphone and all modems.

Question Is this really worth it?

Is this device really worth it? Doesn't the Stowaway fold almost as small and sits on the lap easily enough to use anywhere?

erm, to achieve that, you probably need to put some magazine below to support the hinges of the Stowaway. Otherwise, the hinges will "give way" and fold into 2 again.

The Thumbboards are useful for typing in places where there is no flat surface to lay out a keyboard to type, BUT it's un-comfortable cos the keys are sooo tiny.

The Seiko Thumboard looks classy which earns it a point from me.
The SnapNType looks "cheaply-made" to me... :P

ThumBoard is also significantly cheaper than the Stowaway (less than half the cost). They both have their uses... if you have a flat surface to type on, Stowaway is king. If you are cramped for space, thumboard is the one. I am cheap and continually cramped for space, so the choice was logical.

It appears from the pictures I have seen that the Thumboard has number buttons and the SnapNType does not. Is this the case and if so how do you enter numerals with the SnapNType?

You have to use the "symbol" key on the SNT to enter numbers.

I had one, and no it doesn't.

The Stowaway's R Shift key also bothered the heck out of me.
I wanted something that would let me input data without having to maniacly scribble grafitti, and have almost zero setup time (no clearing a spot to lay it flat, no unfolding, as un-tedious as that may sound). I think I will use this mini keyboard a lot more, since there is no prep time to use it.

Wink SnapNType Review out!!!

images from The Gadgeteer!!

There's a review of the SnapNType keyboard for Visor up @ The Gadgeteer

-> http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/snapnt...sor-review.html

You guys might wanna check it out.

Why isn't there any UP and DOWN buttons anyway?????

One con about using such stuff is that NO CASES EVER WILL WORK WITH THE VISOR and THESE ACCESSORIES. This sucks. Beats the point about getting a case and NOT being able to use it... What was Handspring thinking about when they designed the Visor??? Sigh

Looks like SnapOn has no chance against Thumboard. Less then 40 keys is a joke for me. Usually I use PDA for entering phones, addresses, etc and with SnapOn I have to use special key to enter numbers. But the way, with latest 1.1 driver ThumBoard works fine with VisorPhone and shout work with all kind of modems. So the last 'minus' is it doesn't work with Prism. I think they will release special version very soon.

Oops. I didn't see it :P
Anyway, it looks... WIERD... The front of the keyboard is graphite color and the back is ICE color..

The Thumbboard's my choice anyway. Looks classy and have more buttons
But as long as it works with my Deluxe, it's good

That's a pretty big minus, there are a lot of prism owners out there. I'm still hoping to see a thumb keyboard faceoff on VC soon. :/
