I just came across this article at ZDTV [url]www.zdnet.com/zdtv/freshgear/specialevents/story/0,3679,2376432,00.html[url]

It states "Innogear has three Springboard modules in the works, all slated to ship in Q1 of next year."

Next Year?! What the Hell is up with that? I for one have grow tired of waiting for InnoGear to get their products to market.

What do you think?

Cool

According to InnoGear's website, the MiniJam MP3 Player Springboard will be available in, "Summer 2000."
http://www.innogear.com/

Here's the FAQ:

Also, you might find it interesting to note that the springboard starts as a "zero memory base model", allowing users to incrementally add memory via none other than MMC storage, very similar to the SecureDigital that Palm recently announced as their add-on memory standard,...

Guys, did you read the article "Springing into action" in VisorCentral? I'm really disappointed because the cheapest MiniJam's going to be $199. Initially it was supposed to be $99.

The MiniJam's being bundled the MMC cards. The $99 unit was without memory, which isn't an advantage unless you already have MMC cards lying around or can find a better deal on them. Still, $259 for a 64MB model is too expensive for my tastes. So is $199 for a 32MB model, especially when the 32MB Rio 600 is $169.95. I think I'll be getting a Rio now.

Also in the "Springing into Action" article, it was stated that the MiniJam will be available for preorder starting in a couple of weeks and will ship in early August. I'd have to say that MMC prices will drop as more and more devices start to use them. During a recent shopping trip spent looking for a digital camcorder, I came across several of them that are using the MMC cards for storage of stills. If you watch eBay or pricewatch.com, you'll probably be able to find some for a decent price.

Thumbs down

I'm quickly losing interest in the mini-jam.

I was very excited about it when it was first announced, but it's not coming out till who knows when (how 'bout that sixpack) and the more time InnoGear gives me to think about it, the less I want one now.

I got a 64mb Diamond Rio last year which was gonna go to my wife when I got the mini-jam, but as I think about it, I'm not sure that I would want to take my Visor everywhere I take my Rio (on my handlebars when I bike to work most specifically). My Rio has been through a lot that would have killed my Visor many times, and it's still hummin along.

and with the announcement of the Juli and the Rome..shaped like a cassette so you can use it in your tape deck in the car)...i'm starting to wonder myself.

Considering the Juli will have 2 MMC slots and is smaller than the palm of your hand, AND it will sell for $149. hmmmm....no brainer.

I've been lulled to the Creative Labs camp. I saw that Nomad Jukebox for $499 and fell in love. 6GBs of space....holy crap!!! Granted it's still $499, but if you had 6GB of flash, you'd probably be talking 10's of thousands of dollars (okay, I didn't really do the math, but you get my point).

OEP
