The wait is getting really old. I was told that we should have a Beta ready BEFORE Win2K was even released and we have yet to see any drivers at all..... More than a month after Win2K is release and still no drivers..... It's getting harder and harder to recomend a Visor to any friends if this is the way support is going to be handled.

I AGREE!.
I used to be happy with the Visor. Unfortunally I upgraded to Windows 2000. And wasn't able to synch for almost 2 months. Even worse I lost all the information on my Visor because the battery ran out. I AM WILLING TO PAY 249 DOLLARS for all the data I lost...instead of the VISOR.

After months of waiting, it has finally happened! I can now sync with Windows 2000.

Too bad I had to sell my Visor to do it. I have the Palm IIIxe, now (about a week) and being able to sync with Win2000 is a dream come true...

Anyway, I wouldn't blame you if you went and traded...

All of you guys should quit griping about not being able to synch with Win2k. Spend the 30 bucks and get the serial cradle. I did and I've been synching with my visor since day one!

'Nuff said.

I already spent $250 for something that is suppose to be able to USB sync already. This is one of the main selling points:
USB syncing and how much faster it is.

Spending more money for a slower sync just because of Handsprings' incompetence is not a valid route.

It can synch with USB, just not with an OS that isn't even a month old.

If it's that important to you, why don't you just install an OS that can handle it?

You hit the nail on the head there Hudo,

oh and visor empowered, the real reason for us griping is that we've been told time and time again the drivers are coming "real soon now".
But in reality the closed public beta has not even started yet !

ASH: Well said!

AGOLDFISH: I've only had my Visor 5 weeks, yet I knew enough to get the serial cradle right off. I too would dearly love the USB drivers for W2K. However, I also feel that those that are griping and buying Palms just because Handspring doesn't have a driver for a new OS (hell, Palm doesn't even have a USB cradle), are really looking for an excuse to just gripe.

Still waiting for USB too.

I feel that a great deal of the PDA market customer base is business professionals. Given the fact that W2K is considered an OS for business, I would have thought that Handspring would have had in-the-box support for W2K by the time it shipped. Within a month of W2K being released, all of my other hardware has had W2K native drivers released for them (many before W2K was officially released).

How the product literature reads on the Handspring site, it does make one to believe that the USB support that comes native with the Visor is indeed supported in 95/98/NT/Mac and that the serial cradle is only needed for older computers, not newer systems running the latest Business OS. (http://www.handspring.com/products/vindex.asp) ..

Anyways, according to their disclaimer regarding W2K support (nicely tucked away 3 clicks from the front page on their site) they state they will have a new version of the software that supports W2K and USB by the end of March. This gives them 9 days..

Joe

Due to information that I have recieved, I believe that USB drivers will be released April 1. That is all I'm going to say.

exactly Cerulean!

visor empowered: I'm not gripping and buying a visor just to look for an excuse to complain. That's stupid of you to think such a thing. That does nothing for me or anyone. When I bought my Visor I just assumed it would work with Windows 2000.
Furthermore, I had no reason to assume otherwise.

I think we'd much prefer to just have the drivers. Instead, we've got you telling us to shutup and go spend $30 for an inferior setup. My point is, that's not the solution. The solution is working Win2k USB drivers.

Hudo:

And my point was that I didn't just ASSUME that USB would work with Win2K when it is so new. I poked around a little more and found that it wasn't working and so ordered the serial cradle. Yes, that is an inferior solution and yes, I DO want the USB cradle to work with Win2K.

I did not imply that anyone was buying a Visor just to gripe, only that those that were griping were probably the type that gripe about everything and anything.

I have learned never to assume anything.

"those that were griping were probably the type that gripe about everything and anything."

I sure hope complaining about something that I should have that I didn't receive isn't called griping about everything. I imagine you are one of those people that gets the wrong order at a restaurant and just keeps it to keep from making a "scene".

The Visor website and the box that the product is shipped in says "USB Compatible" and as far as I can tell with the 7 other devices I use with Win2K that are USB, Win2K seems to be USB compatible - THIS is the problem. Being told you are going to have drivers when the OS is released MEANS that the drivers shoudl be ready when the OS is released.

PERIOD.

I was told BY Handspring that I would get to be part of the Public BETA thta was supposed to take place MORE than a month ago. I posted as much on this discussion group trying to let everyone know that new drivers for Win2K were going to be here soon. You want to know what Hnadsprings response was - "I'm sorry Mr. *******, you posted on VisorCentral saying Beta drivers were going to be released soon so we are not going to be able to use you in the public BETA"

WHAT?

I try to let people know that they will finally have Win2K support and that is the way I am treated from HandSpring..........???

I haven't ordered a visor yet, but I expect to soon. Even though all the computers I use (Macs) have USB, I'm probably going to get a serial cradle when I order. It's only $20 extra, and it will give me a backup in case anything goes wrong (or I have to move to Wintel).

Ok, here we go again.

To use the restaurant analogy, If I read the menu in the window and notice that they do not serve fish, then I sure don't go into the restaurant and gripe and complain when I can't get fish. If I want fish that bad, I don't go to that restaurant.

PERIOD!!!!

If you want to synch with Win2k, then either wait for the USB support or buy a serial cradle. ***** at Handspring because they could/should have had drivers by now, ***** at MS because they changed the technology behind the existing USB support, but don't ***** to everyone else that you are going to dump one device for another just because you didn't read the menu before you ordered.

PERIOD!!!

I read the menu, bought the serial cradle and I synch to Win2k several times every day. Yes, it sucks doing it at serial speed and yes I would have liked to save the $20.

Where is the analogy of reading the menu and seeing that they don't serve fish and then complaining coming from?
I read the menu on the Visor and it clearly stated USB support - it didn't say USB support for Win98 only - it said USB support. I got the beta of Win2K before I got my Visor and my USB devices worked fine with the Beta of Win2K and they work just fine with the final release as well SO it SHOULD stand to reason that my Visor should work with Win2K as well - all the other manufactures that said USB Compatible were able to get their devices working with Win2K just fine but Handspring wasn't able too....hmmmmm.......

I read the menu, it had fish on the menu, but all I got was a fish head.... yuck.

First of all, I really want to have the USB drivers for Win2k. But........ If you are going to buy something that isn't in stores, I feel that you should read EVERYTHING there is to read on the product. If you had read into it, you would have seen up front that HS doesn't support the Win2k USB. I order the VDX with the additional Serial Cradle. The box does in fact state: " Requires WIN98 or MAC 8.1+ and USB connection. All other windows and Mac versions require the purchase of serial crade (sold separately).

BTW, I still have hardware in my Win2k system that doesn't have Win2k drivers. This isn't an isolated incident.

Just my $.2...........
