Will you buy the new Handspring Visor right when it comoes out.

With all this talk about a new Visor coming out, will anyone flat out buy it right off the bat the day it comes out? No matter what the price?

Me, I just saw the Sony Clie and the screen and graphics are fantastic. Personally I dont like being a slave to that lousy memory stick so I didnt get it but if Visor tops what sony has out ill porb lay down what ever cash it takes to get it. Then ill sell my prism on ebay cause ill need the money.

Nope. I'll lust after it, I'm sure. But my money's getting put away for an iBook. My edge'll suit my needs beautifully for some time to come.

I for one am getting more than my money's worth out of my Platinum, so I don't anticipate needing anything more that a new model would provide. I don't really need colour, and the only modules on my wishlist are the 16 MB Flash module, maybe a memplug and the eyemodule 2.

It will be interesting to see what comes though, but I think my Plat will be serving my uses quite nicely for a good long while. I'm in no rush to upgrade. Heck, my home computer is still a 200MHz Cyrix MII!

Current PalmOS software seems to be coded quite nicely and well optimized. Hopefully when the next generation of ARM based PDAs come out, software writers won't succumb to the software bloat that afflicts the Windoze virus residing on most computers.

Same here, IMABUG. My platinum works fine for what I want. I lust after the Handera's screen, but I have young eyes so I don't need it. I have too much invested in HS (esp. for a kid) to change to a device that won't work with the majority of my accesories. (GoType, Backup module, 8MB module, HS modem...it adds up fast.) I'll hold on to the 200 dollars I know I'm getting this christmas/birthday season and wait for HS's new device, and if I can use my accessories, I might get it after a price drop. Or, I'll keep my Platnium.

I probably wouldn't get what ever new Visor that comes out but I would probably get a pricedropped Prism which inevitably will happen afte rsuch a release (especially if this new Visor has a color screen). I might even look to eBay which most certainly will have a clout of early converts from Prism to the new visor.

Hell yeah, I believe it will probably have an OLED color screen. As long as it is the same size as the Platinum or smaller and accepts the GPS module then I'll get it. If Sony gets a Magellan GPS unit first then it Clie time!

Well, that's a tough question to answer, since I haven't heard anything reliable about what it will entail. There's a lot of variables.

However, if HS releases a thinner form-factor unit with a hi-res color screen, I very well might go get one. I love my Prism, but it's a brick to carry around.

It depends on how thin it is (I personally think the edge is too thin - I don't want to use a sled with my flash module - and how good the screen looks, and other factors.

Price matters too - not to me, but to my wife. She will doubtless point out I just bought a new PDA (a Diamond Mako), albeit at fire-sale prices.

I can hear the conversation now:

Her: For what conceivable reason could you need a new toy? You just got a new gadget.

Me: [Whiney pleading tone] But honey, it's so cool . . .

I'd like to think I'd have more sense, but since I've bought everything else they sell the day it came out, I'd have to say yeah, I probably will.

Really, depends.

I've a lot invested in my peripherals of my VDX. So, it would need to have the same USB connector (for my keyboard), same basic size (for my rhinoskin, vaja cases, etc.) [I really don't mind the size of my Visor], no DAMN sled for expansion, because I ALWAYS have a module in, a BASE 16 mb of memory (I already use a 16mb Flash module), and a hi-res screen (don't care if it's color or grey-scale, but it must be useable outdoors).

So...yes if it the equivalent of a VDX or VPt with 16mb memory, hi-res screen.
No...if it is a color edge or Prism (because the form factors are different and that stupid sled)

If I have to buy all new peripherals, anyway, than I would probably get the Handera 330-->better screen, compatible form factor, soft-graffite area, landscape mode, 2 expansion slots, voice recorder, etc.

Somehow all our wives must be related... I can just see the same conversation (but in dutch) happening over here..

It really depends on what they deliver at what price. the Vdx had the best price/value ratio at the time. I they can match that again I'll consider it. otherwise I'll stay with my Vdx/Mako...

Also Since I basically pay double (US$ vx A$) price is a bigger issue for me than the avarage US-geek, eh, VC-reader ...

Toolkit, but don't you make approximately twice as much? I mean doesn;t it average out though?

Post Hmmm... Will I?

To Move to the next HandSpring (HS) Device or not will depend on the following:

THE FOLLOWING MUST BE IN THE NEW DEVICE
1) I WILL NOT use a HS device that requires I have a sled(i.e. Edge-type formfactor). This is the sole reason why I have standardized buying "gadgets" for my Prism. If I can't use what I purchased (VisorPhone, Memplug CF, Eyemodule2, StepKeeper, CSM150, Xircom Springport,SoundsGood, more...) with the next line of products, I may consider a new line of handheld and sell my existing modules on Ebay (though, I might wait ALONG time).
2) I want it to be "Thin", but not "Edge Thin". I know it's not possible to be as thin as the Edge and support their standard springboard modules without a Sled (Remember #1 above). However, if the next device is the size of the VisorDeluxe (or slightly smaller), then this will be a likely move for me.
3) Must have a Color High-Res Screen that is visible in daylight. I don't care how they do it, but my Prism makes me cry everytime I need to use it outdoors. Almost tempting enough to consider a Clie/m505. If HS used the same(or similar) display as the Clie, we could definitely talk!
4) 16MB will be an absolute MUST. If they ship an 8MB unit, I won't even bother looking at it. I know it's possible, I had my Prism upgraded to 16MB and I won't go backwards!

If the above happened, it's "Likely" that I'd wind up buying one (couldn't say how long after it has been released though). My next batch would make it a sure thing purchase if 1-4 was "In There" and one or more of the following existed:

OPTIONAL IN THE NEW DEVICE
5) Soft Graffiti area like the HandEra.
6) Wireless connectivity (VisorPhone with always-on internet access) built-in.

Ok, that's my list. I use a VisorPrism/VisorPhone today and quite a few Springboard modules. Overall, I'm happy with my current decisions. There are a few flaws, as with any device. All I can say is "Good Luck" Handspring! Hope to see you in my upgrade path.

i want it to also have a backlite graffity area. if it had 320x320 pixel resulution i wouldnt intirely like that unless there was a way to double the pixels to work for normal programs because some apps look wierd when moved from 160x160 to 320x320.
