Question

Hi all,

I tried this topic a while back because it interests me very much as someone who will probably be buying a Visor in the near future. However, nobody picked up the topic then, so I'll give it another whirl. If it doesn't take off this time, I'll drop it.

Here's the main question: Suppose Alice walks into her friendly neighborhood office/computer retail store and buys a Visor Deluxe. Suppose also that at the very same time, Bob goes to www.handspring.com and orders the same machine online. What will be the technical differences in the two machines they get? In particular:

1. What kind of stylus will each person get -- the "cheap" stylus or the "new and improved" one?
2. Will the Updater 1.0.0 patch that Handspring just released be installed on both (or either)?
3. Will the DRAM bug be fixed on both (or either)?
4. Any other hardware/software differences between the two?

The idea, of course, is that I'd much rather drive over to Staples and get one and have it immediately than wait, but I want to get a machine that has the updates updated and the bugs patched by the factory if possible. I have no idea how "fresh" the machines in a retail store are, so if some things were changed on the machine at the factory then they might not be changed on the machine sitting on the shelf in Best Buy.

These might simply be impossible questions to answer, but it's fun to pick your brains.

enjoy,
bertbert

I would assume that you would get the lastest version of everything if ordering from Handspring. Or at least an option to wait for the updated version. Retail outlets probably have the "retail" boxed version that could be two months old. If any units are bought that have the cheap stylus should be returned with a complaint. The App/Info menu item gives version numbers of the installed programs, but does Handspring publish a list?
