Perhaps if they used a real web server (read Apache) on a real server ( read Sun) this would not be happening to them.

Handspring is using Microsoft's IIS (Internet Information Server) for their Web server.

Hrrmmm... didn't the traceback of the IP traffic lead folks back to another company, not Handspring. I was under the impression that their site was being hosted by a third party.

A trace shows that "www.handspring.com" is currently hosted at Exodus. You can also quickly surmise this by checking the domain servers on the whois for 'handspring.com'.
This means that Handspring's NT server is taking up colo space with them. Now the server could be a shared machine (multiple sites being hosted on it), but that's difficult to tell from here. Whatever the case, it is running IIS.
