Thumbs up

Thank you Taki!

FixItGal - let us know how it turns out.

My Visor is graphite, so I'm still trying to get an Ice case. Knowing that the one that warped was not made by Handspring makes me more confident.

Now, if I could only talk my friend into trading me his ice case for my graphite one...

Hmmmmmmmm......

Lightbulb

Check this page out:

http://homepage1.nifty.com/jl1bmw/temawasi/charger.htm

It's from the same site. It looks like a crank for charging your Palm V. What an amazingly strange idea.

Purple Visor

Well - I did it. Dyed the ice case twice. Last night I used the Wine colored powered RIT and it didn't turn out too good. (Looked like "ashes of roses" not quite the deep maroon color I'd been longing for).

Went back to the fabric store today and got the Purple liquid RIT dye, and it turned out much better. Its more of a shading then a complete color change, but it is noticable.

What I did (if you follow these instructions and it warps or otherwise damages your case I refuse to be responsible for any damages - do at your own risk....also, opening the case for any reason voids the warranty, so don't drop it after coloring....)

1. Got a quart Pyrex baking container.
2. Filled said container with purple dye.
3. Put kettle on the stove to boil, with filtered water.
4. When water was just ABOUT to boil, poured into Pyrex
container.
5. Inserted ice plastic pieces, including the top and
bottom of the stylus.
6. Stirred in Pyrex for 10 minutes.
7. Moved Pyrex onto saucepan of almost boiling water.
(This was to make a cheap double-boiler. No direct
heat on my expensive plastic parts)
8. Stirred on stovetop for 15 minutes at nearly boiling
water.
9. Turned off gas, let cool, and then let sit for 45
minutes.
10. Wash parts off in cold water in sink.
11. Dry case via hair dryer on low power, at arms length.
12. Reassemble buttons to top case - use glue gun to keep
buttons in place.
13. Reassmble PDA, replace circuit boards, etc.
14. Power on, and hot-sync to replace all info.
15. Chuckle gleefully, snap pictures and login to
visorcentral to crow about success.

I have several photos, and I will email them to Taki. Don't
know how to insert images in this web-based reply, or I would.

Everyone -

I just emailed 4 photo to Taki, and he's going to forward them to Molly at PDC. I would also ask Taki to post whichever one he feels came out the best on the board so that everyone can get a look at it.

Talking It's Purple!

I finally got around to dying my Visor. I used Rit powered dye (Purple) and simmered for 5 minutes and let it sit for another 5 minutes with the heat off. I agitated gently to ensure an even color. It turned out great! A nice, soft purple (not lavender). I'll post pictures as soon as I find my camera...

Wink One Pink, One Purple

Well I finally bought a digital camera, and was able to post the pictures to my website (nothing fancy...)

The Pink unit was done using RIT dye Fuschia 12, the Purple used Purple 13.

I dyed the Pink unit with the buttons in place for the first minute, then I removed them and continued to dye the front case. Total dye time was 5 minutes.

Remember, this voids your warranty and the risk is yours.

Enjoy!

Undo

I haven't tried to change the color back to ice. I assume the color is permanent, since the plastic is absorbing the color. It does not rub off.

Luckily, I like purple!

Talking Wow!

fixitgal, your purple Visor is pretty cool! I don't know why more people are not responding. May be you should start a new thread. I'm just curious, did you dye pink one without taking buttons off? Is the purple one's Handspring symbol got purple tinge?

Cool

Pretty cool!
Like the idea that I could take a couple of ice color housings and make many different colors, and switch them out at my leisure.

On problem is, where to buy the extra housings????

Cool Cool...

Taki,

Thanks for the compliments. I've started a new thread as you suggested.

http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...p?threadid=8441

While dying the Pink unit, I kept the buttons in place for a minute, then rinsed in cold water and removed them. The buttons are painted and absorbed the dye well. But they are not very heat resistant, and would warp if left in too long (longer than one minute).

The dye does not have to boil. The water just has to be hot (just below a simmer). I did the Pink one in the microwave in a Pyrex measuring cup (4 cup size).

I also wanted to thank you again for the translation. Couldn't have done it without you!
