If you really must have constant communications, then don't leave home and stay on the phone all day. I can't imagine needing to browse the web while driving. It's bad enough now with more accidents being caused by cell phone use.
So, if I reallly think I need the power of a PC and the mobility of a handheld, then I'd get a laptop.

Try fitting a laptop into your coat or pants pocket. These new devices will not stay at $500, trust me. Nowadays, you can get a new PC for less than that. Just like PC prices went down, so will these new devices.

Not until wireless hardware and services become inexpensive. If you think that mainstream consumers are going to fork out $400+ for a Treo, or $450 for a Palm i705, you are sadly mistaken.

Which is why I noted that the price of these devices will come down. Just imagine the a next generation device, in the same form as your Visor, with wireless connectivity. Even the antenna would be integrated and hidden under the plastic. Voice calls would be an optional service.

But the "era" of wireless as an affordable, practical, reliable technology seems farther off than many are hoping for (ESPECIALLY in the US)...heck, even an inter-net is far from attaining these specifications, and now we're already anticipating shortly the Internet's mobile/wireless adaptation? We could soon be in a nightmare of infrastructure mess...

Anyway, Handspring is a company that is literally staking is entire future on the immediate widespread adoption of wireless. It may not be around long enough to enjoy the true wireless revolution. (well, any way you slice it, HS is in trouble...I can't imagine the Treo being its savior at this stage in the game, and the PDA certainly won't be.)

Red face Alas, poor HS. I knew them Horatio...

I for one have become disillusioned over my many purchases of HS products as well. Though I have not obtained a Prisim, it was next on my list.

Lately I have been considering Windows CE devices such as the iPaq. While many of you are considering mearly switching to another Palm OS device I am considering converting to another OS alltogether.

Here are some of my contentions with the Treo:

1. The screen is much smaller compared to the already tiny screen of the Visor/Palm devices.

2. It isn't color.

3. No Springboard slot.

4. Cost

I feel that if I am going to shovel out $500+ on a handheld device it at least ought to be in color. I would pay $500 if HS made a Prisim II with 32 megs of memory and a Springboard slot. At least I wouldn't have to throw away all of my Modules and accessories.

By the way, anyone want to buy a 64 Meg MiniJam and Speedloader for $135.00 plus shipping?

Ahhhh... That would be a dream machine....

Sorry... But I agree. I just bought my Memplug and Handcam and don't want to move to a Prism if HS is going to do a 180 and say So Long Visor.. AND now that they did the PRO, a PRISM+ (What would they call that ... SPECTRUM?) seems a logical step.

Honestly when I expressed downtrodden sentiments on PDABuzz, someone told me that there were several rumors of a NEW Color Pro unit at PalmSource. I've searched and have been unable to find any substantiation to this. The thing is --- Will HS have enough capital after launching the Treos to bother with such a device? Especially when they are playing price limbo with the devices that are to be the "consolidated Visor Line" as mentioned back in January?
