Unhappy

I'm attempting to install Handspring's version of the Palm Desktop software on my PC at work (Win95 4.01.0.971B) and I'm encountering a failure:

Isset_se

An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway, click Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit the program, click Close. You will lose information you entered since your last save.

Buttons offered are Close and Ignore. Clicking either of the buttons results in a GPF with this message and information:

The program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

ISSET_SE caused a general protection fault

This happens whether or not the setup program is run from the Handspring front end menu or directly from \palmsfw\disk1\setup.exe

I do have Palm desktop software already installed for my Palm IIIx and I'm attempting to install the Handspring version so I can get the Handspring version of the Hotsync manager so I can use my Visor!

Any ideas?

Thanks,
-- Michael

If you haven't done it previously, make sure all other programs that could be running are closed (including antivirus if you have it).

This is the first time I've had a PDA for myself, so I've never encountered this error.

You might want to try uninstalling the previous version of the Palm software you have.

Shadow,

Thanks for the suggestions!

I've made sure my antivirus is not running. That didn't seem to make any difference.

I'm about to get to the point of doing the uninstall of the Palm supplied software.

Interestingly, on my home machine the Handspring supplied software installed over the Palm supplied software with no problems. Of course, I run WinNT at home and Win95 at work. Oh well.

mcgaw,

Your attempting to install to Version b of Win95? Did you install on your home machine to Win98?

Several people have reported errors in loading to Win95 because of lack of support for USB. RevB does not support USB. RevC did.

This might be your area of concern but it's only a suggestion not necessarily fact.
