I'm going to be getting my license and car soon and I was wondering about some of the GPS modules. I see that three are going to be introduced but the sites for the products aren't very informative. Can someone please give ma some information on any of the GPS modules? A site or article with information about them would be helpful too. Additionally I once saw a product that allowed you to mount your Palm Pilot/Visor in your car but I forgot the url of the site that carried it. Does anyone know about this? If so please post the addy of the site that it's on.

Handy GPS said they'll release the end of the month, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

GeoDiscovery will announce their springboard on the 27th of this month, with details and such. After that the board goes to beta testers and I think they expect to ship the end of this summer. I believe the GeoDiscovery will be highest priced at $250.

Theres another GPS that has built in GSM (Wireless standard) that lets you browse the web and do other stuff like with a cell phone, if you don't live in a large city most likely you don't have GSM.

Please keep in mind whichever GPS receiver you use, the accuracy is still subject to the selective availability controlled by the US military. This selective availability is selectable and can be regionalized for areas of contingency or conflict. This basically means you can have excellent accuracy in the United States and less accuracy in Europe. If you accuracy has been better than 10 meters after the selective availability was turned off, it can just as easily go back to 50 meters if the military deems it necessary in your area. I live in Southern Germany and my accuracy is between 50 and 80 feet. This is probably due to the selective availability being turned on due to the operations going on in the Balkans. I hope this helps when testing your GPS receiver.

I've been getting pretty good results since SA has been turned off. Errors vary from 10ft to 50ft, but still much better than before!

I have been playing with Delorme Solus Pro 1.5 via a handheld GPS, and sometimes the marker (me) would be slightly off course on the VDX screen, but at least I had a good idea what streets I was following and where the intersections are.
