Problems syncing with AvantGo

I am just about ready to lose it. For about a month I have been experiencing problems syncing with AvantGo. Sometimes it syncs just fine (not often), but usually during the "Searching for Update Web Pages" phase of the sync, I get an error message on my VDX which says:

"The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop was lost. Some of your data was NOT backed up. Please check your setup and try again."

It always hangs up on the last page to be updated, and it just sits there. If I cancel the hotsync, I have to reboot my computer. If I just leave it and it try to finish the sync, it eventually stops after about 5 minutes.

This started out of the blue - I used to be able to sync just fine. For anyone interested, I am using the Palm Desktop 4.x (newest version compatible with AvantGo) and I sync with Microsoft Outlook. Also, I use the following hacks: TealLaunch 2.50, Pop!, Phlegm Hack and GreenLightHack.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I saw right after I posted this that someone else just posted about a PDABuzz article about AvantGo/sync problems - sounds like my problem. Are we talking about the same thing? If so, I will just keep my eye on that thread.

The problem is with Hotsync manager.

Palm put out a solution for the 500 series, but there has yet to be a handspring version. You can try the Palm patch, just search for it on their Website.

Install Palm Desktop 4.0.1 and the Hotsync Manager patch (both available from the Palm website). It has worked fine for me and my platinum. Even though Palm says it's for Palm devices only, and Handspring doesn't support it, it still works.

You didn't mention what version of the AvantGo software you were running... I had lots of problems running AvantGo 3.x along with PhlegmHack. However, after I upgraded to AvantGo 4, I haven't had any more sync problems.

BTW, I didn't think Handspring had a 4.x version of the Palm Desktop?

I just checked and I am running AvantGo 4.0, build 769. I am running the Palm desktop 4.0.1 that I downloaded from Palm's website. I think that you are right - Handspring does not have an update for that yet. I downloaded and installed the hotsync manager patch and I have synced two times - it's working perfectly. Thanks, Imabug! I can already feel my blood pressure lowering.

McPhling is an update to Phlegm Hack. It has more options and works better.

Hey, thanks for the pointer to McPhling. I've been using PhlegmHack for a while now... Considering that Mitch hadn't updated it in a while, I was losing hope of getting a color version to work with my new Prism -- until now!
