I JUST BOUGHT A VDLX AND I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS. IM TRYING TO DOWNLOAD FROM HANDSPRING SOME FREE SOFTWARE AND IM NOT HAVING ANY LUCK COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TALK ME THROUGH THIS IN NON COMPUTER GENIUS LANGUAGE THANKS...I CHOSE A VDLX FROM ALL THE INPUT I RECEIVED FROM VISORCENTRAL...

If you truly know nothing about computers, you won't get much help from anything typed here. You'll be much better off if you find a friend, a relative, or the neighbor's 10-year old kid who can show you what to do.

But, in case you're exaggerating your lack of computer knowledge, let me explain the basic steps.

<OL TYPE=1>
<LI>download the software from the web site (www.palmgear.com is one of the best places for palm software). To download, click on the link for the title (on palm gear, click on the icon that says ".zip" under it).

<LI>When you do this, you will probably get a window on your screen which asks if you want to open or save the file. Choose "Save" and select the directory where you want to save the file.

<LI>The .zip file you just saved is a little package which holds one or more files. People distribute software as zip files because you only need one .zip file instead of many files. Also, the zip file process compresses the file to make it smaller (and, thus, faster to download)

<LI>To open a zip file you will need a program to uncompress zip files, such as WinZip. Visit www.winzip.com and read about downloading their software

<LI>When you have properly installed WinZip, you can go to a file viewer (such as windows explorer) and double-click on the zip file. A window will appear showing the contents of the zip file.

<LI>Extract the files inside. There will be at least one file whose name ends with ".prc". Also look for a file called README or readme.txt (and THEN READ IT!!)

<LI>Start the palm desktop program which came with your Visor Deluxe. On the main window, click the button which says "Install". In the file window that appears, find the .prc file for your downloaded software. Click "OK" and then "Done" to indicate that this is the last program you want to install.

<LI>The program will be installed onto your Visor the next time you Hot Sync.
