I bought a Visor the first month it came out

2 mb version. And it's still in use, daily. But.

1. All the Springboard modules that I saw that influenced me either vapourware or delayed for months and overpriced when released coughcoughInnogearcoughcough.

2. I changed computers in the intervening years, and now run an iBook with OS X. Out of the three big Palm OS options, Handspring is the only one without an option for users who want to sync in OS X. Palm has their beta of desktop 4.0, and there's a workaround for the Clie. Considering that may Mac users bought Visors over Palms because of it's USB support from day 1, this is a slap in the face to a core group of Handspring users.

So now, my wife was my old Powerbook, and she needed a PDA. She ended up with a Palm m130, and it works great, while I am unable to sync with my iBook in Classic.

I want Handspring to succeed. I will purchase products based on my needs, however, and I have no need whatsoever for a Treo.

I run Mac OS X

I own a Visor Prism and run Mac OS X on my Beige G3 with a PCI card for USB/Firewire. I'm still using Palm Desktop 2.6.1 via Classic and find that syncs are actually more reliable than when I was only running Mac OS9, plus you can somewhat multi-task as you can do other things in OSX while the syncing in Classic runs as a separate task.

I've read online that folks have been using the Missing Sync (the 3rd party Clie software) to sync their Handsprings with Palm Desktop 4 in OSX.

Despite all of this I too probably won't get a Treo unless they come out with a Bluetooth model. I need to have a separate cellphone so I can go online with my PowerBook so I don't really need a combo PDA/Cellphone. Now if Handspring comes out with a Color Treo w/phone that has bluetooth so I can use it with my laptop wireless then I'd be interested. Plus I'd like MMC/SD memory capability at least.

Palm desktop is the only app I have that forces me to run Classic. Okay, Links 2000 doesn't count . At this point, there is no excuse for a developer wanting to sell to the Mac market who doesn't make an effort to port their apps to OS X, and doubly so for one with a wide Mac following.

That's good to know. I'll try that, I have nothing to lose at this point.

Bluetooth would intrigue me as well. But the capabilities of my wife's m130 (okay, so the screen is tiny) for it's price are really interesting. And the look and feature of the Clie appeal to me, too.
A Treo is right out for me. I'm one of the wacky ones that prefers graffitti over a thumb keyboard anyday. If I want a keyboard, I'll unfold my Stowaway and get a REAL one.

Um I don't think it's all about design. Price is quite a really big factor too. That's why I waited something like a year to get a Visor Pro when its price drops, and seeing the prices of those Sonys, looks like I'm not buying any of them anytime soon.

The only people who buy PocketPCs are rich coporate-type people who know <i>zero</i> about these kind of things, and just read the reviews of it (editor's choice etc..) out of some weird yuppy magazine without giving much thought to battery life and practicallity. Or maybe they like Windows too much. In terms of getting these type of people to buy their products, PocketPC PDAs are winning. Well, the individuals at least.

And I think you're being too harsh on HandSpring, though I don't like the new Treos much as well. What can we do about this? Best thing to do is to buy stock in HandSpring but majority of us would probably just sit and wait for more news on them, while utilising our Visors to its fullest.

I suppose some folks think Handspring is crazy for using GSM in their phones since it's such a minority in the USA compared to CDMA. GSM is bigger outside the USA even though where I live I wish they had a CDMA phone.

Memory stick is Sony's proprietary product but it's in their digital cameras and videocameras.

Are CF cards as popular as they are in the US in Japan...?
