Cool

Well, I ordered my blue Visor Deluxe on 9/17. I just got mine at about 9:45 this morning, delivered to my office in Palo Alto, CA. I did a UPS trace with the tracking number and found out that it was shipped yesterday.

So far I'm pretty happy with it! It feels good and solid, though you wouldn't think so by looking at it. I'm not going to fling it across the room, though! The protective cover is not as bad as I thought it would be, but it still takes two hands to do. It does seem to give it a lot of protection, however. The slip on case is OK, but I'm going to order one of the Handspring value cases for it. It came with the Visor Deluxe, 2 Panasonic AAA batteries, the slip on case, the USB cradle, the standard stylus, a CD-ROM in a cardboard cover with the "Getting Started" guide, a Graffiti sticker, a "Quick Reference Guide", an ad for accessories, and two Handspring logo stickers (one suitable for use on a window). So far I've just done the initial setup, and then I had to go to a meeting, that I just got out of.

This is my first PDA, so I can't compare it to the Palm, but I think I'm going to like it.

Now, when I get home tonight I'll install the cradle and load some more apps into it.

Question

How did you get a tracking number??? The csr's i have recently talked to brush me off with the canned statement "the first batch have shipped..."

Lightbulb

Just a wild guess here, but I'll bet he looked at the UPS shipping label on the box in his hand.

I could be wrong.

(Credit card's been charged, I live in the Wednesday zone, oh boy oh boy oh boy oh...)

I think he tracked it from the number on the box AFTER he received it. I was thinking about the same thing.

Question

What's the "Wednesday zone?" I mean, I know what you mean, but how did you find out when the people in various zones should receive theirs? I live in Austin, Texas, so I'm hoping to get mine by Thursday. Ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease!

For those who ordered thru' the web. FYI, I called yesterday and was told/informed that the website should be operating by the end of nextweek. We should be able to check our status then. There should be no delay in our shipment even if the CSR cannot access the order info.

re: wednesday zone: dkantola so nicely posted the UPS Ground shipping map for (probably) those of us who got our order in on 9/14 at:
http://www.visorcentral.com/visor/d...TML/000452.html

I'm a 9/14 fanatic, my card's been dinged, and when I look outside, the ground is bright orange , so I'm guessing tomorrow!

Isn't the Zone map for ground?

Didn't ALOT of people, like myself, specify (and pay for) Express shipping.

I'm amazed I haven't seen any discussion of this. I was quoted $8.50 ground / $11.50 express. My credit card was charged $268.40 on 10/15 thats $249.99 for the Visor dlx and $18.41 shipping. WHAT GIVES??? If they are going to charge that much for shipping it should certianly have arrived by now...

Question

Good point - I was wondering about the high shipping cost myself. My credit card 'authorization' was for $267.16 with no extras (ordered a case online and it is not included - darn it). I think $18.00 S/H is a little extreme for a box that might weigh 1lb and takes 6 days to get to me in Virginia. To my knowledge I paid for the 'standard' UPS shipping. I hope an itemized reciept accompanies my new toy.

Yes, I got my tracking number from the box and then used it to see when it was shipped.

The packing list has the following charges:

Visor Deluxe. Int'l Eng Blue 249.00
Sales Tax 19.30
Postage & Handling 6.95
------
Total Shipment 275.25

I'm in California, so your sales tax may vary.

Question

Question for those who've confirmed that their card was either "pre-qualified" or actually charged: What company name was it under?

10-19-1999 PURCHASE -292.43
10-15-99 SLC*HANDSPRING INC 888-565-9393 CA 81176

for a Blue Visor Deluxe w/ additional serial cradle (I hope) shipped to New Mexico UPS Ground, I think. It's been so long....

Those of us in CA will definitely get dinged for sales tax. I am not sure about the other states, but I know that a company is required to charge sales tax when selling to customers in any state where they have operations. So depending on where Handspring's other offices (manufacturing? r&d?) are...some people might get hit who weren't expecting it.

Smile

Mitch,

I had a charge on my debit card yesterday that I knew had to be Handspring but it seemed to high (like around $263 for Visor, serial cradle and standard shipping). Today, that charge was gone (I assumed they were checking funds) but my Visor was on the doorstep when I got home. The invoice inside has the correct amount on it. I'm sure my card will be debited by tomorrow.

Mactin-

I'd be happy to drop a demure YAAAAAAYYYYY when the thing makes it here to the Albuquerque area.

Glad to help out a fellow denizen of the Land of Enchantment.

I'll even trace the route, courtesy of the elusive UPS shipping number.

Maybe tomorrow? (fingers crossed)

John, I'm also expecting a Visor-delivery in the ABQ area today or tomorrow. That'll make three, since I purchased 2. Maybe we should start a Visor support group.

Got a question for ya. I was wondering if it is small enough to easily fit in your back pocket. It's how I get everything around these days once at work and walking between fab facilities.

Fits great in your back pocket, but you DEFINITELY don't want to accidentally sit down...

Talking

Nachtswerg:

Hey, the group's already started here online.

We just need to establish a subgroup in meatspace and come up with a name.

Visor Vaqueros?
ABQ PDAs PDQ?
Sandia Handspringers?
Nuevo Mexico on the Go?
Handy Rio Grande?
Visor con Dios? or, for that matter,
Visor con Queso?

The possibilities are boggling.

(Here's hoping I can post an on-topic message in this thread soonly...)
