Being a newbie to PDAs, I was hoping somebody might be able to offer a simple explanation of what the different type of resets are (I think I've read hard, soft, and warm - any others?), how you do them, and when?

Well a soft reset is when you Stick a paper clip in the back alone a hard reset is when you do that and press the power button at once after the Splash screen that says palm computing there will be another screen that says erase all data i havent learned anything about warm though you do them when something is working improperly like a freeze or you want to erase everything on your visor...Hope this has helped!

There is *one* more soft reset that is not documented, done by paperclip in the hole with the up button depressed. This is like a soft reset, but doesn't execute the startup code of installed apps. Sometimes helpful when a new app that you're trying repeatedly causes your unit to crash despite soft resets. If this doesn't work, then you will unfortunately have to do a hard reset, and lose all installed info (which is hopefully backed up).

The Visor is my first PDA and I've been using it for 2 weeks without having had to read the manual. I just got the following message on my Visor:

MemoryMgrNew.c,
Line:2858,Chunk
over-locked
RESET

I put a staple in the small hole in the back and everything seems to be fine now. My question is do I need to do anything special next time I sinc or do I just continue as if nothing had happened. Thanks for any advise.

You should be fine. Just reboot and go on. It is not something to worry about unless it starts to be a really regular occurrence.
Watch for anything missing or wrong, but like any other computer, this just sometimes happens. You should not lose anything, except the data you were currently entering, and sometimes not even that.

Thanks Stever. You were right, no problems after regular syncing. I guess all computers crash once in a while, hopefully my Visor will crash less often than my Windows laptop.
