Hi i'm interested in a visor, but i dont know which model to get. I'm a student and I'm not sure that I need the extra ram. The colors are cool, but i'm not going to spend an extra $60 just for an ice or a blue visor. Do i really need the extra ram?

That's a hard question to answer. If you think you may add a bunch of programs and what not, yes get the extra mamory.

As they say, get as much memory as you can afford.

I just got my BVD about three weeks ago, I have added a few bits of software and I am approaching 2 meg.

I will be very glad to have 6 more meg when I hit the 2 meg level.

ON THE OTHER HAND

If you will use it as a personal organizer only, with names, adresses, your schedule and some memo's, you may find you never come close to using the 2 meg.

Probably not much help to ya but that is the thought process behind the choice

If you don't, you'll probably wish you had - order the 8megs of ram VDX that is. Find the $60 if you can.

You'll want to download webstuff from Avantgo and download classic ebooks for reading assignments. You'll be the best read guy in class and a whiz at current events.

Then you can go on "Millionaire" answer all the questions, win the big bucks and pay back your extra $60. I want my cut of your winnings for encouraging you, too.

I'm a high school student and bought my visor around christmas (my own money, didn't get one as a present, too expensive ). Well, anyway, the colors look cool, and I use AvantGo a lot of the time (if you use it normally, it should use up about 500k, or more if you use a lot of chanels, use regular web sites, or modify the link depth).
Also, I uploaded the adventures of hucklebury finn for my reading assignment, and the teacher was so shocked when I couldn't remember the name of an island in the book, so I whiped out my visor, opened CSpotRun, and hit Section 1, find "Island". Well, up came the answer, creating a new era of book reports at my school. Also, I use Four.Zero (much better than DueYesterday) to keep track of my homework, and I keep lots of games, IR apps, Reference software, etc. Well, as it turns out, I am using just slightly less than 2MB, so I would have run out of any space for extras. So, to sum it up, go deluxe, you will be glad you did!

I'm a junior in high school, who got interested in Visor after seeing a preview article in Newsweek in May of 99. I saw how the Springboard would work and said to myself "I HAVE to get that thing". Personally, I have used about 3 megs of the 8 available on my BVDX and (as soon as I can get my cradle working again) I will probably use the rest very soon and need to get the 8mb flash sb or the SixPack... Anyways, my advice to you is to get a Deluxe, otherwise you will be kicking yourself down the road.

definitly get the deluxe visor. i was going to get the palm IIIe but decided i would rather have a pda that could hold anything i had the desire to download. it is worth the extra 60 bucks. i was up to 6 megs used at one time, and i am back down to 4.

Pardner,

Go collect some cans or something and get the Deluxe with 8megs. As we learn how to use these things and the more items we can program into them, the trend of course will be that we need more memory. They already have the flash 8MB as a module. Keep surfing the sites such as Palm Central and the others and see how much you just MIGHT want to download, and then you can make your decision. With the new modules on the horizon I think that it would be wasteful to get the lower end unit.

If all you really want is an address book, datebook and a couple of silly games, you don't need the RAM. That said, you probably can't realize---I know I didn't---how much use could be made of a lot of RAM once you have it. I keep finding new uses, and I've really come to like (and I thought I wouldn't) the Visor as an E-Book reader with TealDoc. Now, I'm wishing I had even more RAM than 8 megs. I can envision countless uses.

Let's see..I went to Paris. I took on my Visor maps of the metro system, a program to calculate metro routes, another to make dining recommendations. Then, also a French-English dictionary on the Visor. Plus a few books to read on the plane. A couple of good new games. It didn't take long to use 5 megs of ram.
