for the second time, I've had to reformat my 8 MB module due to it crashing. both times the module was attempting to "compact data" when this happened.

Any ideas? There's no warning when it's going to compact so I don't get a chance to disable anything that may be running. I definitely didn't have quickbits or afterburner running at the time since I haven't figured out afterburner well enough to not crash my Prism.

I have had this same issue when I have tried to copy files onto the module when I have less than 250k or so.

It works file until you have the module almost full. Another person in my office has also had the same issue.

I've also had this happen to me consistently. DO NOT 'fill up' your 8MB module, or when it tries to defragment the memory ('compacting'), it will usually crash, corrupting the module and forcing you to re-format it, losing everything you had on the module. Seems like Handspring should have caught this problem in QA...

I've had my module show it was compacting several different times I've never had any problems that an occasional soft reset or a removal/reinsertion of the module couldn't fix.

Thumbs up

Well...I have 200k left on the module. I'm not touching it!

I've got mine completely full. No kidding, FileMover says I have 0K left. Everything works fine. However, I do have some difficulty from time to time with FileMover and the AfterBurner Hack. I'm pretty sure an unrelated issue.

Those overclocking/optimizing hacks don't work with file mover! I couldn't even get the module loaded with quickbits running! It would crash if I tried to scroll down more than twice!

I have 2 of the modules. One compacts just fine and the other crashes every time .

This has happened to me both times it started compacting. Sounds like Handspring has an issue here. Mine is a version 1.1 module. FYI latest version of Backup Buddy will back up the module at hotsync.

Glad to hear Backup Buddy backs up the module! I downloaded the demo after having to reload the module after the crash.

I guess I'll have to invest in the software.... It's a shame, though, to spend $80 on a backup module then need to spend an additional $20 or $30 to backup the backup module!

BackupBuddy and 8MB Flash Module

I'm a registered user of latest version (1.40) of Backup Buddy and it always crashes when I ask it to "backup up data and applications on extension cards". It crashes so hard (on Win2k) that I have to reboot to hot sync (as I haven't been able to figure out what process(es) is still running and kill it.)
I have v 1.2 of the 8 Mb flash in my Prism and I do run quickbits (at least for a few more days before the demo expires - I'm waiting to see if I notice a difference when it does
BTW, I love BackupBuddy aside from this. It has saved my butt any number of times. I'd be much more cautious about trying new hacks/enhancements/apps if not for it.

Purplemd, I don't suppose you're going to AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) conference in March? I'll be there.

Perhaps they have. Check the version of your FileMover, Mine is v1.2. It has been full, half full, full again and now quarter full with no problems.

BTW... regarding backup of the module. At the same time I move a file to the module, I move it to a "Module Backup" directory on the desktop.

With "BackupAll" and creative re-naming of the backup directory I get BackupBuddy for free...
