A cheap pager?

When the Palm first came out I thought the best "killer ap" would be to integrate a simple numeric pager into the features. I've looked all over for this but it seems as if this idea was quickly overtaken by other fancier expensive wireless services. Has anyone ever found a cheap pager service using Springboard communications module? Probably not, but I had to ask. Is a one-way pager another one of those missed oportunities of the Handspring expansion slot?
