Thumbs down

First off, I should say that I don't own the HandyGPS. If it's like any of the other GPS units I've owned, I'm sure it's pretty cool. Mike's excellent description of his experiences also helped fill in some of the gaps.

But..... isn't anybody at least a little miffed that Nexian decided to go with a proprietary data format, instead of the industry standard NMEA protocol ?? What that means is only the app included with HandyGPS will work with the unit, and we're at the mercy of Nexian to create topo maps, marine maps, etc... AND keep them current. There's the catch..... without the threat of HandyGPS users abandoning UbiGo in favor of 3rd party maps, what incentive does Nexian have to keep their maps updated?

I desparately want a Visor/GPS combo for flight navigation. It would give me features and options not available on other GPS units for the same $$. I thought HandyGPS would be the perfect unit. But it looks like I'm a Geode convert. Just my $.02

Question

Has anyone tried the Navicom with Solus Pro to see if by chance it would work? I used SP with my old Tripmate GPS and would LOVE to use it with a Navicom.
