Once, a long time ago, Macrosoft was supposed to be the provider for the mapping software for the HandyGPS. When they took any reference to the HandyGPS off their website, I wrote and asked if they had ended their relationship with them. It's been a while, but in a nutshell they said that they were sick to death of Handy GPS delays, and they wanted a partnership with a more reliable outfit.

I asked to be notified when they did form a a new partnership, and I received the following e-mail recently:

Hi,
you had requested to receive updates regarding the availability of our Springboard GPS Module for the Visor. We are pleased to announce that MarcoSoft has partnered with Magellan Corporation to bring you the Magellan GPS Companion, a total mapping and GPS solution for the
Handspring Visor. This versatile Springboard GPS module will feature an enhanced version of our Quo Vadis mapping software (rebranded as the Map Companion), a CD containing our entire US and territory map library, and Magellan's own Nav Companion GPS software. This dynamic bundle will be available from our website beginning early 2001. We invite you to read the entire press release at http://www.marcosoft.com/News/GPSCompanionPR.htm.

Best regards,

Not sure how much stock to put into that since the GeoDiscovery guy was crowing at Comdex about how Magellan had just decided to switch to their software since Magellan's previously chosen software "sucked".

hmmmmmm

This might explain why the link in their e-mail to me for the "press release" doesn't seem to be working.

One wonders who it was that Geodiscovery beat out.

Could it have been Macrosoft?

Was everyone who was involved with the HandyGPS universally a screw up?

Anyhoo, I think it's kinda neat thaT Magellan might be developing a GPS springboard module.

Anyone else hear anything about it?

We saw the Magellan at Comdex and it used the MarcoSoft software:

Below is the PR from Magellan, which also states it will use MarcoSoft's software.
