Select option 7.... It isn't sex or anything, but it's sure to generate some posts.

Wink better call batman.

Sounds like the Penguin hacked into their automated attendant setup. I know it's supposed to be a duck, but still--think about it.

It's probably one of the most original marketing schemes I've ever seen. Put together a goofy little option at the END of you phone menu, seed the 'funny' to a few friends via email, and, voila, about 4 weeks later every human on the planet with email has called your company.

Simple brilliance. I'd give whoever thought of that one a huge promotion.

I heard a radio report about this. The creator claimed not to have intended it as a marketing scheme but just as a lark when the number '7' became free during a menu reorganization. The duck is the company logo, chosen by the company founder, an immigrant to the US. He chose the duck as a symbol of wealth when he saw how many wealthy US people have decorative duck decoys in their homes.

The company pays for each incoming call, but the total amount they spend is paltry compared to the cost to get their name accross to the same number of people through traditional advertising.

ironically enough, i bet nobody on this board (or any of the 30 people who have emailed this to me in the past 2 months (STOP! :eek) could name the company without calling back.

You're right. I couldn't name the company based on my call to this 1-800 number.
