$99, Xircom! $99!

Having not looked at available modules for more than a year, I was pleased to discover Xircom had actually produced an 802.11 springboard. My university has 802.11 everywhere, and having access from my oft-used platinum would be great. So I went looking for one.

$299?

Every tech ad in this week's papers has 802.11b cardbus cards for $99 or less. I've got one for my laptop, and it brings full-color 1024x768 web access to me wherever I carry the heavy thing on campus. 802.11b on a visor will bring tiny grainy monochrome web access. Not as pleasant an experience, buy occasionally handy. NOT worth $299. It's pretty clear that the technology is worth about $99. Given that my whole Platinum was $249, why in the world should any module for it cost more?

So get smart, Xircom! Price the springport at $89.95 or so, and I'll send you a customer. Me.

Ridiculous isn't it? I purchased an Audiovox Maestro PocketPC (Toshiba e570 equivalent) and a CF WiFi card - all for $349 - only $50 more than the Xircom Springboard. They should be ashamed.

CF Wi-fi w/ Memplug?

Can you use a CF Wi-fi card with a CF Memplug? Has anyone tried it? Would it work?
