Exclamation

Have you heard of SETI@Home?

First, you must download the program.

Second, install the program, read the instructions, & run it.

Finally, join the Handspring Visor Crunchers Society.

And come back here to discuss.

you know what, I'll reinstall it... We used to compete with seti at work (back in Amsterdam) we had some real fast boxes that could calculate a 'package' in no-time.
But I'll only install it on my laptop(s) so don't expect too much result(s)...

I like the Idea..

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Cool

I just added my results to the HVCS. I may not have very many data units completed but my machine can crunch 'em pretty fast. Great idea Fishscaler.

I would join, but I'm already in a group at work. Software developers *love* this kind of stuff!

I have heard about Seti@home for some time now, and always thought about joining, but never did. Now I have officially joined the search for ET!

Too bad this crappy 200MHz isn't going ot crunch numbers fast enough. Perhaps in a few weeks when I finish the upgrades I want I will be more productive!

How to process work units (PC edition):

  • Run the client minimized in System Tray; AND
  • Click Preferences, then select Data analysis always runs & Connect automatically whenever needed; NOW
  • Right-click the Desktop; THEN
  • Click Properties, Screen Saver, the Settings button, check Go to blank screen, and set the Minutes until blank to 1 minute; FINALLY
  • Click OK, Apply, OK (and make sure you're system stays on 24/7, or some semblance thereof)

Remember, you have to have at least 64mb RAM to run the program in the background. AND PLEASE turn off the client when playing games, running Photoshop or Mathematica, unless you have a 700 MHz system (or above).

Not without an AC adapter and a hack that disables auto-off though...

Just out of curiousity, what are y'all crunching with?

Mine's a Toshiba Satellite 4080xCDT notebook PC, with an Intel Mobile Pentium II MMX @ 366MHz and 192mb RAM.

Arrow

I added my 280 units to our team...

Now I have to install the program on my home pc too (Athlon 800) so I can beat Don. Maybe I can get that iMac in the conference room spinning too...

All of you with websites, PLEASE put a link to http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/...team_69783.html so we can really start something here.

And direct them to this discussion, as well.

You've got yourself a 400 MHz Power Mac G4 "supercomputer" on the team. Just started my very first SETI data unit. Now as soon as my ISP's mail server comes back online, I can find out my password and join the HVCS.

the previous results have been done on a lot of different kind of machines from Toshiba Tecra 720 laptops to dual Xeon 450Mhz with lots a ram..

Currently I only run it on my Toshiba Tecra 8100 (600Mhz 256Mb ram)
Once I have my desktop back up and running I'll install it on that too.

Cool Ya Got Me

Ok I'm in. I'll be running on three computers when I get my act together. Currently I'm on a 300Mhz Compaq with 128 Ram and an Old IBM 365 Laptop chuggin away at 120Mhz 24 Megs. I'm getting a new speed demon in a few days and we'll see what she can do.

Go team Visor, Go!
