I am totally surprised at how many people still want to keep graphitti. Maybe Palm should use the idea I had for getting more screen space. Just make the app buttons smaller and slide the graphitti area down lower. I am not crazy about a virtual grapphiti area for the reason that it could get in the way, and to constantly tell it to pop up or down would get annoying. If they are gonna keep it just have permenant place for it but give me more screen space.

Maybe a Sony can make a 320x427 screen.

I like grafitti, but I don't care if there is a dedicated area for it, Handera's solution seems like an interim step. The final step is just letting you do graffitti wherever w/out having to pop up the area.

I tried to install tealscript so that i could print like i normally do. the problem is that my normal writing is often illegible to even me, so i could hardly expect the palm to understand it.

I just wish graffiti included more lower case letters, especially a,e and g

I think graffiti is great, and a great idea, but it's getting old. It's very usable, but still slow. However, PPCs handwriting recognition is no better for me. I always write graffiti with PPCs, because I'm used to it, and it doesn't pick it up. I don't really know what a good solution is...I love graffiti, but it's just not fast enough for input...Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

I don't see a "fast input" option available now for PDAs, other than Stowaway Keyboards (but that's not acceptable for most situations) or that new "snap-on" sleeve keyboard (which would be slower than a Stowaway keyboard, because I'd be doing hunt-and-peck.)

In the future, I think it's voice recognition -- but as to how long it takes it get slow voice recognition, much less fast VR -- that's a mighty good question.

Until then, Graffiti will be just fine for me. (I can't use DiddleBug and its ilk for taking notes any longer -- my brain won't let my fingers write anything other than Graffiti on my Visor! )

1 - Proper handwriting learned in school
2 - "shorthand" use by secretaries and stenographers
3 - "chicken scratch", understandable only to the writer

When it comes down to it, I think what's slow is proper human handwriting in general. That's why secretaries used to use shorthand. Shorthand was used to speed up writing (data entry on paper) to capture what was needed, then it was cleaned up later.

The fastest handwriting of all is that unintelligible scrawling ("chicken-scratch") that we all use when we're really in a hurry. Most of that stuff is only readable by the person who wrote it. After a few days, I can't even read my own chicken-scratch.

I don't think handheld software and hardware is up to the task of deciphering chicken scratch. Until it does, we will be forced to write slowly, whether under Graffiti or real handwriting recognition.

Back on Topic, I prefer a real keyboard...
Ever since I started using my Mako, I just love the fact I dont have to 'write' anymore...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

By: AzNCoMpUtAnErD @ 06:54 AM

Well, I guess my handwriting falls into shorthand, I write pretty ugly and fast. That's why I HATE taking notes on paper, I love my palm and mako. Between the two, I do prefer the mako's input methods, but prefer the Palms Address Book, Date Book, etc apps. I dunno what I'm gonna do... I guess I'll have to live with graffiti for now. Voice recognition would be great, but weird sometime, look like you're talking to yourself. But if the teacher is lecturing....hahaha, i could sleep and get the notes! We'll need some fast processors for that though...I heard ARM PPCs...iPAQ and @migo, will be able to do voice recognition soon...we'll see...but that will never turn me to the dark side! Never!

I have to admit that it will take a pretty significant cultural shift for me to want to use voice recognition on a PDA.

I mean, I can see the convenience and the advantages; but wandering around in public, speaking into a little box... I'd feel like the Prime Dork. On a soapbox. With a spotlight on me.

I've seen folks with pocket recorders and digital voice recorders in the malls or in the airports; and every time, I flash back to a self-important writer played by Alan Alda in Crimes and Misdemeanors with a voice recorder. Not going to go there.

Let's see where the Brave New World takes us....

slotmachine: DO NOT, underestimate the power of the dark side...ARM processors are very powerful...you MUST complete your training!

AzNCoMpUtAnErD: I can't kill my own father...

Oh, No!!! hehehe...

Joined the dark side
By: lrb3000 @ 08:30 PM

I joined the dark side back in January when my company bought me an ipaq 3650. I never liked the HRS that came with it. Transcriber was a step forward b/c it supposedly would recognize your real handwriting. It didn't work that well, so I found myself using the keyboard or fitaly (and missing graffiti). BUT, just last week I started using a new program called Calligrapher 6.0. AND WOW!!! It does a great job recognizing my handwriting. I didn't have to train it, and it is very accurate. Oh, I really like that I can write anywhere on the screen. I think it would be nice to see something like that move to the palm platform.

You must be destroyed...
By: AzNCoMpUtAnErD @ 02:46 AM

Well then, lrb3000, it looks like you must be destroyed...I'll have to mess you up so you gotta wear a body suit and mask like Anakin Skywalker, hahahaha! I'm just playing.

That's great, though I will never join the dark side! Maybe the alliance can learn how to use your "Calligrapher" trick? hehehe...

You will destroy the iPAQ, and join the alliance...
