Edge Screen Replacement or Edge Replacement
SO after a brief foray into the Prism, then the Zaurus, I decided to come back to a monochrome Handspring. And I saw the mention of Consumerdepot here and bought an Edge for $135.
I was very happy with the unit, and have carried it everywhere. Unfortunately, it took a tumble out of my hands while I was waiting for BART and I cracked the glasstop. I immediately ordered a new from Consumerdepot for $115 this time.
Now, realize that Handspring wants $119 to fix an Edge's cracked screen.
So I called them today...to see if they'd be willing to simply sell me a glasstop.
The gentleman I spoke to was nice, but told me that they do not sell parts, they only make repairs. I can only imagine how his eyebrows shot up (from the sound of his voice) when I explained that it was cheaper for me to buy a new unit from ConsumerDepot than to send my broken unit to him.
He even agreed that buying the new one seemed like a better idea, and directed me to look around the net at places that sell HS parts (I'm assuming he was referring to GetHighTech and othersuch sites).
I wonder if Handspring cares at all about the impact on the environment at having broken handhelds just thrown out instead of repaired. I wonder why they won't sell parts, and if so, why they'd sell to other companies, but not the consumers.
Overall, this is lame. I'm switching cell providers to Verizon soon and buying a cheap phone so I can switch to the Kyocera 7135 later this year.
I'll buy an omniremote module for my replacement edge and then it can become a glorified remote. If not for the dfac
I didn't think HS could manage to piss me off as a consumer *AGAIN*, but they've managed.
