Ok, I have a regular 2mb Visor that I have had for about a year. I am wanting to get a new one because the 2mb is just not cutting it for me. So, my deal is that I can either sell my current Visor and get a VisorPlatinum or I can just get a 8Mb memory module. So, I wanted someone's opinion on what I should do. I know the memory module would be cheaper, but is the Platinum worth it to spend the extra money? THanks.

A few thoughts:

I'm not sure, but I don't think a 2M Visor can access all of the 8M on a module. You might want to search threads here or look on Handspring's web site to be sure.

Even if it can, there is some inconvenience related to moving files back and forth, and you wouldn't be able to move any files to the module that were larger than the amount of free space on the module. Plus backing up the module is more work.

Then there's the question of the OS. Platinum comes with 3.5h, and you may find that there are apps that require it. 3.5 also supports better grayscale display built-in, and some apps check for that.

It's tough to tell someone if something is "worth it" to them. But if spending the money doesn't put a strain on yourself, the Platinum is a truly better solution.

My opinion: if spending the money isn't important to you, I would definitely go with the Platinum. I have a 2mb Visor with an 8mb module. I have had no problem with accessing anything on the module (I have about 2.9mb of memory remaining on the module and 1.5mb remaining in the internal memory.) Just today, though, I wanted to download and install an application that was 2000mb of memory -- big problem. Sure I had enough space on my module, but the file was too big to put in the remaining internal memory. The only way I could accomplish getting the program on my module was to install it on my husband's Visor Deluxe and copy it to my module. If I didn't have the extra VisorDx laying around (which most people do not) I couldn't have done it. Plus, moving files back and forth is an inconvenience.

For me, money was an issue when I bought my Visor (little did I know that I would end up spending more on software and accessories than what the Dx would have cost). If I could do it over again, I'd get a Platinum. If you've got money to burn, go for it.

If you buy a memory module and decide later on that you want another Visor you can always use that memory module with your new visor. It's not like your going to blow the money on it and not be able to use it with anything else.

You could also have www.stnecorp.com upgrade the Visor to 8 Meg for $89.

While the Plat isn't that much faster then the Dlx, but beaming is a lot better with the platinum. Almost everyone i beam with who has a deluxe has problems with beaming. Also if your planning to use a Nokia 8290 or anything infra red to get internet access, get the Plat, it has the prog built in. All the ir progs for Dlx either work, or gives your a looping reset. Also i found that some Plats have flash ROM, and I have a friend who figured out how to flash them, so there is hope for upgrades!
