I want to connect to the internet using my visor. I don't want to pay another monthly fee for wireless (which I couldn't anyway because there is no coverage here). My computer is connected to the internet by cable, so I can't dial into my ISP with a springboard modem directly. Would Palm VNC be able to connect to my computer over the phone line, or would I need one of those non-existant ethernet springboard modules?

Angry

I have the same problem! As far as I know we are don't have any options. What we need is an active, not passive CF Card adapter. No one is making or planning on making one.

This is the only area in which my iPAQ 3630 is better.

How would an active CF card adapter help? Explain like you would to a 2 yr old. I'm not familiar with CF other than memory storage for cameras, etc.

yes--use a free ISP. I have heard this is possible.

There are free ISPs out there and I have heard it is possible to use some with a Visor. However, my cable modem provider (RCN) also has local dialup service--it's extra, but not as much as wireless is. I actually use Omnisky, though--so I have not tried this.

There are lots of CF cards that do so much more than just act as memory storage. I believe there is one that acts like an Ethernet card, which would work quite nicely with a cable internet hook-up.

Alas, all of them except the memory cards require an "active" CF slot. Hence the yearning for an active CF adaptor sprinboard for the Visor.

CF cards were originally the "Springboards" of laptop computers.

The visor has USB right?

So why couldnt someone rig up an adapter to connect to an external USB ethernet device?
Or am I just crazy?

Unfortunately @Home doesn't have a dial-up service anymore. What are the odds of an active CF adapter coming out?

This is mentioned in other threads, but given the current springboard port design, the answer to your question is never. The port can't supply enough power.

Is this what you are looking for?

http://www.arkonnetworks.com/flash.html

This product, the G24, is a base station and springboard module that allows you to share a broadband network connection wirelessly with your visor.

I can't wait for it!
