Question

I've got a visor deluxe and a 8mb springboard module. here's the problem:
--whenever the module is loaded the visor screen darkens up. I can still use it, but the shade is noticeably darker. What's up with that?!? Does anyone else have this problem? If so, what do you do about it?

And is there anyway to partition the flashmodule? How about a defrag utility that would work on it?

I have the Flash module and (unfortunately) have had to use it in three Visors as I'm on my third one. Haven't seen any of the screen darkening that you mention.

No, you can't partition it and there does not seem to be any need to defrag it.

The only problems that I've encountered with the Flash module are:
1. Launcher III forgets which folder you had apps in when you remove and then re-insert the Flash module. Launch'Em does not have this problem.
2. Switchhack causes a soft reset if it don't disable before removing the Flash module.

Lightbulb flashmodule

kalahari:
thanks for the tip on switchhack; sometimes i find the visor locking up when i pull out the module (or put it back in); maybe that the cause of my problems.

and you've had 3 visors????

Thumbs up

Yes, I've had three Visors but it's not as bad as it sounds.

The first one, that I had for 9 months was shipped back to Handspring as they thought it had the 8MB DRAM problem. It did not have this problem but rather it was failing the DRAM test because I was over-clocking it at 26MHz (and this wasn't being fully de-activated). Handspring then changed their procedures to check for the DRAM problem to tell people to turn off hacks (especially overclocking ones) AND do a soft reset before running the DRAM test.

The second was replaced after I dropped it onto concrete. There was no sign of damage and it powered on just fine -- it just did not accept any stylus input. When I called Handspring, I even told them that I had dropped it but they didn't seem to care -- I received a replacement the next day! Talk about customer service...

Cool Re: defrag utility

That functionality is already covered with the File Mover app. If and when you try a copy or move operation and FM finds that there is not enough contiguous space, it will automatically do some house cleaning before completing the copy/move operation. When this happens, you will see messages to this effect, and the copy/move will take longer than normal. I have no idea how extensive the defrag is . . .

Red face flash module woes, cont'd

Now I'm having new flashmodule problems! Just in the last few days...
--the module has crashed several times while I was copying files to it from the handheld
--I've had to pull the module out when starting the handheld (even if no hacks are enabled) or I get a fatal error
--i received a message that the module had gotten corrupted, so i reformatted it (and lost all of my files because I couldn't copy them back to the handheld). This happened three times in one day.
Any suggestions?

Exclamation

First, if you haven't done so already, but a copy of BackupBuddy. This will backup the contents of your flash module with every sync. This will at least give you alittle data insurance going forward. Are you running v1.1 of the firmware? If not, go to Handspring's web site, and follow the instructions for downloading and installing the update. If the firmware is current, then I think it is time to contact Handspring re: a RMA. You certainly have made a good faith effort to resolve this matter on your own.
