Is there any sort of adapter one can buy that will allow a USB cradle to be used with a serial port?

You're much better off just buying a serial port. Not only is it cheap, it's also a backup.

I am thinking about it, but I am still curious to see if there is an adapter. If it is cheaper to get the adapter I will get that, because I only need a serial connection once in a great while.
