casio BE-300 : smarten up, everybody.

okay, its come to this. 199 dollars gets me 16mb or ram, a full featured comp that can play mp3s rightou out of the box and a brilliant color screen. I played with one at future shop, and found that it was exactly the same size as a visor, and even the same wieght.

Ive stayed off the "win ce is getting better than palm" bandwagon untill now, but let me say that this devices gives NO EXCUSE to palm, handspring and the rest. when i can afford a new pda sometime next year, not even my love of the eyemodule will keep me tethered to a non-mp3-playing black-and-white-screened palm when i can have color and mp3s for the same price.

Huh? What they're going backwards from PPC2000 or whatever it is? Where is the IR port?
It also comes with a sync program called PC data sync soft - what happened to activesync? Wonder if this is really expandable, or just a $199 one-off PDA

No thanks - I'll stick with my Prism, while it didn't revolutionize anything, it does have a chubby color screen and plenty of Apps & hardware availiable, even if I can't use it in direct sunlight.

The BE-300 may seem tempting at that price, but it's not a very good PDA! Performance is mediocre at best (like many PPC devices), has a lousy screen, and runs a "hacked" version of WinCE. I would spend more money and buy a Clie 760 if MP3 is what you crave. I agree with you that Palm and Handspring need to be more competitive, but trust me, this Casio device doesn't hold a candle to the Palm platform..neither does PocketPC.

BE-300 will be a flop.

To follow up on Foo's comments, it is my understanding that most Pocket PC programs will not run on the hacked version of Windows CE this the BE-300 uses. Unless it really takes off (which I doubt) you probably won't see much in the way of third-party apps written for the thing.

oh, i guess that kkind of figures. well, im sure not buying a crippled pda, my visor with os 3.1 non-upgradable is crippled enough for me. you are right about the clie though. color and mp3s is what i want and so far ony sony seems willing to deliver...
