Question

I have a Visor Deluxe that I purchased about a year ago (May 2000). I just received my Minstrel S from Go.America. I'm aware that most of the Minstrel S providers are now saying that the modems are "optimized" for Visor Platinums and higher. So far, however, my Minstrel S seems to be getting pretty good throughput.

My question is, how exactly can I tell if my Deluxe is causing "non-optimal" performance? Signal strength looks good. Is there a "noise" parameter I can look at? Did I get lucky?

Thanks!
Marcel

According to other VC members if you look on the back of your VDX there's a black circuit board directly above your batteries. This is assuming you do not have a graphite VDX and the back is the clear plastic. The optimized units do not have that board right under the plastic like the non-optimized ones do.

If there's anything wrong with your current Visor (scratched screen, chipped case, etc.), you may want to go for an optimized one. First of all, you'll have it in a matter of days; secondly, you'll have a unit in like new condition (at least mine was); lastly, you'll be sure that your unit is optimized.

I'd say that if you are satisified with the proformence, then I wouldn't worry about it, it couldn't hurt anything, and if you are planing to upgrade to a new visor in the next cupple of years, then I seartanly wouldn't worry about it.
