After installing Palm Desktop 4.1, which has a USB hotsync enabled, I discovered that my
SoundsGood player CAN'T CONNECT to the Good desktop counterpart, it just doesn't see
it, so I'm stuck with whatever music I have on the player. Despite that, I can Hotsync in the same time, excluding connections problems. So I e-mailed to
SoundsGood tech support and dude told me, that it's a known issue with Palm Desktop 4.x.
Has anybody else have the same problem, and if yes, how do you deal with it?
P.S. I love that Desktop 4.1, it's so much better, than Handspring one, may be someone has a
workaround, I'd really appreciate it.... I have Visor Deluxe and Windows Me.

I had the same problem and have heard of no workaround. Had to go back to 3.

The trick to it is you need the first release of Palm desktop 4.0. I use 4.0 not 4.01.

For some reason 4.01 screws with the ability to talk directly to springboards. Since I still had the first version of Palm desktop 4.0 I just uninstalled 4.01 and reinstalled 3.1 then install 4.0 on top and lastly did a custom install from desktop 3.1(from the disc that came with my prism)3.1 of Hotsync manager only. Then you'll have the new desktop working with you visor.

Palm doesn't have the previous version of Palm Destop 4.0 on its site any more but if you want a copy i can icq it to you or email it if you can accept a 4 to 6 meg attachment.

Thanks, mikedemo, I went back to Desktop 4.0 using the trick with installing Handspring 3.x
Hotsync manager (turned out, that I had 4.0 saved, thanks G*d), and everything works fine
now! Including SoundsGood, and even Pilot Install, which is a nice little program, that allows
you install any .prc or .pdb files without full Hotsync, which is stopped working under Desktop
4.1 I'm happy man again, but may be bored a little ...

Had the same problem but it took me longer to work out the cause. Went thru a couple of reinstalls of win98 (thinking it was a USB conflict I wasn't getting resolved) and replacing my USB card. Company was good about responding when I took up the problem w/ them. I replied I wasn't happy about being forced to go back from 4 to 3 to use their product and asked about and update. Their response:

Forwarding note from: <[email protected]> Tue, 5 Jun 2001 09:28:22 -0500

We distribute for the manufacturer the Good company and when we ask that question of them we are told only:

"Good has not made any specific announcements about future upgrades to the SoundsGood and, at this time, there is nothing new to announce. Should this, or any other upgrade become available, Good will be sure to notify PalmGear and loyal customers."

I like the product but for anyone who hasn't made their purchase yet this is something to think about.

From a not-loyal customer!

Huh? You guys are talking about installing a piece of software that in no way is promised to work with the Visor, only Handspring's desktop promises that. You should be complaining to Handspring about this.

Unhappy

Do they have a disclaimer that I missed. It's a module for the Visor and the software that comes w/ it is for moving mp3 from your desktop to the module. The only way they designed for it to get files. Why do you say we're "talking about installing a piece of software that in no way is promised to work with the Visor," ?

You complained that version 4.0 of Palm Desktop caused problems. Handspring has yet to release their version of Palm Desktop 4.0, if you install Palm's version and it screws up connections with modules then its not Good's fault. Each licensee is supposed to release their own version of the desktop, and Handspring (If you go look) it still on version 3. If you're going to complain about having to go back down to version 3 then complain to Handspring and tell them to release their version of Palm Desktop.

Now I see your point. I just felt since Soundsgood loader was independent of the Palm desktop that one shouldn't have a bearing on the other. I was using a serial cradle w/ the Palm desktop (V3 and 4) and had to switch to the USB cradle to use soundsgood loader.
