Angry

I just now got off the phone with a customer service rep. I called with some fake question to set up my real question which was "Do you have a finite shipping date yet?"
The response? "Yes sir, three weeks" I asked if she meant three weeks fomr TODAY, and she said yes, that is the ship date. Now, with the announcement that the ship date was MOVED UP by 2 weeks, AND considering that it was slated for MID-OCTOBER to LATE-OCTOBER shipping to begin with........does this sound right to anyone else? I have sent some emails to the 'feedback' link at the bottom of the Handspring site, and I encourage you all to do the same. It's time for OFFICIAL word from someone other than Customer Service Reps!

I believe we will have to wait for the "big unveiling" at Internet World. I think the whole thing is showmanship.

So long as mine SHIPS before Nov 1, they will have kept the commitment they made to me. I hate to wait, but it keeps me from getting upset.

The other thing is why are we putting so much stock into what the CS reps are saying? They have been giving out contractitory information from the beginning.

I agree. If there isn't some action on the web site and the units don't start shipping in the next few weeks, then we'll have something to gripe about. Until then, let's try to keep our cool and act like we're not a bunch of ten-year-olds waiting for Christmas! Although, that's what we all are, right?

Eagerly awaiting my Visor.

Cool

I agree with rsperko & bpowell423. I'm not gonna complain unless I have something real to complain about. Granted, the CSRs should be better informed or more close-mouthed, but I just don't take 'em very seriously.

Talking

Everyone take a deep breath-The first releases all said "shipping in October" that's pretty broad and then Hawkins says shipping Oct. 15th. I ordered a Helio which was definitely shipping on Sept. 30th. It's now delayed until the 8th of October. They'll be here before Christmas and probably before Halloween. Now there's an idea for a laser etching Springboard that would envelope the user in laser light that acts as a Halloween costume! I'd like to be Darth Maul please!

Chill- all these complaints about shipping date won't cause the units to arrive any sooner. My credit card wasn't charged- that's a blessing.

P.S. Customer Service is being handled by some outfit in New York state according to other posts. They won't have a clue about the real ship date until the things arrive in Silcon Valley. I'd suggest we stay off the phones and let them complete the transfer of hand written orders into the computers rather than tie up the phone lines and slow down the process.

I hope the people entering our orders into the computers aren't the same ones answering the phones! That is what I heard on the street though...

Actually those people answering the phone ARE the same building the Visor. They do it just inbetween calls. The more often you call the later you get your Visor.

Question

I ordered mine today. They also told me 'three weeks.' I am willing to believe that's just the official party line and it's meant to encompass a wide margin of error and that it will actually ship SOONER, but what do I know?

Does anyone know if they will be selling them at Internet World in NY?

If they sell any units besides the ones on Demo they'll have some very upset customers that have been waiting for nearly a month, including me.

I don't believe they'd do that...bad press. They'll probably tell all interested parties to wait for the advanced web site and not even give out the toll free. My bet is the site will be up tonight since the show opens tomorrow.

Here is the "official" word from Handspring. I called them today to find out the status of my order. I ordered my first Visor on Sep. 14, just like everybody else. First they couldn't find a record of me in their database. Finally the guy I talked to was able to come up with something, although I still have my doubts...I think he was just humoring me. Anyway, he said, and I quote..."the Visor you ordered on the 14th either went out or will go out by the end of the week with all the other pre-orders". The second one that I ordered just 2 days ago will go out, and again I quote..."will go out at the end of the month with the second batch when we will start shipping our product en masse". Now I know what your all thinking.Yada, Yada, Yada. But this guy really did sound like he had real concrete information in front of him. If he was lying he did a great job because he convinced me.

I called Customer Service again... Hah they will soon recognize my voice. This being my first PDA, I am giddy as a kid at Christmas. (Just hope I don't have hopes too high and get disappointed!)

Ok.. I asked the guy specifically:
HAVE ANY VISORS SHIPPED?

He told me NO but they would in two weeks.

He mentioned that they had an 'information meeting' yesterday... (Probably to consolodate information and prevent the he said/she said stuff that has been going on...)

I wonder if by ordering on the 29th of September I will be included in the first shipment?

Thumbs up

Just to add my experience to the mix, I called about 15 minutes ago and was told that shipping would begin this friday (10/8/99) and continue into next week. Shipping would be UPS ground, so I could expect mine "within 2 weeks." (BTW, I ordered on day one. I can't remember what that actual date was it has been so long.)

I've been trying to have the mentality that it would never come, so that whenever it did I would be surprised and excited, and darn it, it isn't working! I can't wait! (I think I'm going to make one of those construction-paper, tear-a-link-a-day chains I used to make for counting down to Christmas day.

If they're shipping UPS ground somebody should call and ask where the warehouse they're shipping from is. On the UPS website you can get a little color coded map for UPS ground if you enter a ZIP code for the origin.

Just this second got off the phone with a CSR as I wanted to add a USB cable to my order and change the shipping to priority. Well we tried to find my order and I told her I had not yet receive a confirmation.

She told me that NO confirmation EMail would be sent until the unit had been charged and was ready for shipping.

She said that if I ordered on the first day that the orders could not be changed as they had already been sent off to be shipped and would be shipped "SOON".

I was told those of us who ordered the first day should have our visors in about a week.

As always take this as its meant, news from a CSR is unreliable, but thought everyone would like to know.

I also ordered mine on the 14th, and have been told that it would ship late this week. However, I was also told that I would probably receive my Visor before I receive my email confirmation. Tell you what, how `bout we all go to sleep and have someone wake us up when our Visors arrive. That way we won't have to wait around anxiously and be confused by all of these conflicting reports. But I better get that confirmation FIRST. If I get my Visor first, I won't really believe it until I get that confirmation.

This is worse than Christmas .... when I was a kid waiting for Christmas at least I wasn't neglecting a very large stack of necessary work in order to surf the Web looking for Visor updates! Sheesh!
