I've counted 20 different threads (including mine) regarding the Prism and fatal exceptions. I know you may be able to blame much of these on software, but I'm starting to wonder if the Prism is just not a very stable device. Are Platinum, VDx, or even Palm users seeing many fatal errors? As a standard, how many per month (3 for me so far in January).

All computer hardware and software is flawed if the criteria is that it must work compatibly with all other software and hardware. Just when I get things stable I'll buy another piece of hardware or software that breaks something. With PalmOS 3.5, most fatal errors are recoverable without wiping out and restoring files. If you only run the built-in apps you will find that the computer runs fast and stable.

I've found that my Prism has had many more fatal errors and hard resets than my Palm III or Visor Deluxe ever had. I still wouldn't give it up though I figure I'll just have to live with it (and make extensive use of BackupBuddy and the Backup Module).

My prism never got any fatal error before I got my omnisky.
but after several fixes and I got a replacement modem, my prism become very stable. I love my prism.

I have a platinum, and love it. I've only had to reset it once. That was because of a conflict between upclockDA and my eyemodule. Removed upclockDA and it's been flawless since. I also have not noticed any paint wear at all.

I am very happy with my Prism. I have not noticed any more fatal errors on my Prism than on my VDX. Any errors have always been attributed to software incompatibilities. I have gone 1 to 2 months maybe more without a fatal errors.

I had all sorts of issues until I upgraded to 3.5.2. after that, I've had almost no issues at all.

My Visor Deluxe had horrible problems with the "interminable reset loop" that could only be cured by a hard reset. That actually almost turned me against the whole Palm OS deal... objectively - if it crashes frequently and the crashes result in a reset loop that can only be cured by deleting everything on your palm... then what use is it?

All of my problems were cured (?) by swapping my Deluxe for a Deluxe with the new ram? At least it would seem that way. After I swapped I never had a problem, but it is something that still makes me a little nervous.

The only similar deal I've had with the Visor Prism (in the month since I upgraded) was a single time when a soft reset removed everything from the Prism. I've since swapped that Prism for one without a stuck red pixel... and haven't had any problems.

Just backup often - and keep the backup module with me. The reason I bought the backup module was actually because of the times my Deluxe would do the hard-reset loop and I would lose everything on the road ;-).

I'm not sure it's the Prism. The Prism came out at around the same time as a bunch of new modules, particuarly the Minstrel S. The Minstrel (with either OmniSky or YadaYada) seems to be the source of most of the reset problems - I haven't counted the posts, but that's my impression. Query whether the problem is with the Prism or with the Minstrel.

Actually I've found my prism to be a heck of a lot more stable than my deluxe was.

I understand this, that is why I would like to compare the stability of the Prism with the other Palm OS PDAs.
I think the sign of a quality OS is to handle poorly written software without the entire OS crashing (compare Mac or Linux vs Windows)...
