Question

Hello, i'm curious how i can sync my prism with my computer and laptop... i have an ir dongle installed on my pc and a built in ir port on my laptop...

i tell the prism to hotsync in "ircomm to pc" setup, but there's no connection...i tried beaming something from the prism to my phone(8290) and it seems to be working fine...

it just won't connect to the computers?!?

Chapter 8, page 183 of the Prism User's Guide (located on the Handspring CD) details the steps needed to perform IR syncs.

Basically, the PC must have an IR port properly configured as a serial port, the HotSync Manager (on the PC) must have Local Serial enabled on the proper port, and the Prism needs to be configured (in the HotSync app) to do an IR to PC/Handheld sync.

Also, as I just found out, Windows 2000 does not support IR Hotsyncing yet...

Too late for me, because I just upgraded.

IR hotsync-ing is terribly slow. I wouldn't recomend it at all.

If it's any consolation, IR hotsynching works great with the Mac platform. But, it's about 3 time slower depending upon the amount of data that needs to be transferred.

I will say, however, that everyone should know how to hotsynch via IR in case they have a major issue such as misplacing / forgetting their synch cable, or worse, when my connection port on the bottom of my Prism broke I was able to synch via IR and get my data backed up.
