Unhappy

My Hotsync is working. The status goes through the motions. The files on the desktop for address, todo, etc. are updated
with the most recent date and time of the hotsync but no data is exchanged.
I am concerned as you are that I will lose a lot of data from the handheld (Visor).

I did use backup buddy to backup the entire handheld including the address, todo, notepad and datebook databases. So I do have a little comfort.

The problem is that I have reinstalled the Palm Desktop numerous times with various differences. No matter what the Desktop will not read/sync the handheld's address, todo, notepad and datebook databases.

I hope someone out there has an answer. I believe that the problems lies in the fact that even though the handheld and the desktop have the same user name, the hotsync does not recognize they are the same.

Prior to reinstalling the software I have remove any reference in the windows registry. I have also tried installing the desktop with and without the original user name. When I installed using a temporary user name the Hotsync asked if I would like to setup a new user on Palm Desktop. I though I found the secret. I clicked yes. But upon the next hotsync, the address, todo, notepad and datebook zipped by in the status window. I opened the desktop, again no data on the desktop.

The hotsync still installs new files and backsup databases that have changed (with the exception of address, todo, notepad and datebook).

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

this may sound stupid but it happened to me. I have 2 users on my desktop (and it sounds like you do aswell..your temp one) and i found that everytime i synced it appeared like nothing was happening!

I kept forgetting to switch the user i was looking at on the palm desktop in the top right corner of the window. All that time i was looking at the other user's info (which was blank at the time)

I felt (feel) stupid but i thought i'd bring it up incase it helped?

Red face

No that isn't it. I only set up the temp user on a subsequent reinstallation of the Palm Desktop. My thinking was that if the real user name was not on the desktop when I hotsync'd, the desktop would set me up as a new user. That seemed to work because the desktop asked me for my handheld's password. But once again no data flowed to the desktop.

Thanks for the reply.

I have the very same problem and have spent the last three hours trying to figure it out to no avail. I can add a couple of more details, however.

First, Palm Desktop is getting my old data from somewhere- where I have no idea. After re-installing the software (including completely wiping out the Palm directory) the first hotsync pauses on each app as if it is copying info. Other modules are also backed up. My memos, addresses, etc. now have data in them, BUT NOT THE DATA I HAVE ON MY PALM! Instead it is restoring data from what I can figure is my last hotsync prior to some recent software changes. More on that below. The software must have some kind of backup hidden on the PC or the visor but I can't find it.

I have a couple of theories as to what put me in the position I'm in. Most likely it was easysync for Lotus Notes, which I removed early in the process of trying to fix this thing. The other possibility is hackmaster, although the only hack I have installed is the backlight reverser.

Lightbulb

You may have stumbled onto something. I actually am syncing to two different PC's (work and home). At work, guess what, I was using EasySync with Lotus notes. I disabled or deleted EasySync. I thing that this is about the time it started.

Regarding your problem, the only backup I know about is the one under the Palm Directory: NameU\Backup\ (User Name).

Tonight or tomorrow I am going to take the plunge to try to fix this thing. In preparation I bought BackupBuddy and made a complete backup of the Visor. Next I will do a hard reset on the Visor and wipe out the palm desktop software, including the registry entries. Then I will start over from scratch, installing the desktop and doing the initial hotsync.

To fix this this pro

Talking

Eureka! I started a new thread last night and got a response that fixed my problem. Easysync apparently makes a sync DB for each of the apps it works with. Removing those fixes the problem. I'm syncing just fine now.

Here's the thread with good directions: http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/001007.html
