I managed earlier this week to get the backport of the USB code from the 2.3 development branch of the linux kernel to 2.2.14 working on my desktop at work. However, I am unable to obtain a transfer speed higher than 56k.

It seems like this may be more of a problem with pilot-xfer not being made to handle USB, but I haven't really had time to hack around with it yet. There is a mention on http://usbvisor.sourceforge.net about not being able to obtain speeds faster than 56k due to the USB modules themselves.

Anyone more aware of the status on this than I, or should I join the usb-visor list?

Wink

you are correct. i believe that the usb modules themselves are just a shim into the serial subsystem, that is, basically nothing more than serial-over-usb at this point. i'm sure that they're working on getting 'native' USB support, and from what's on that site they seem to have a good relationship with Handspring. i'm using 2.3.47 and getting 56k as well with pilot-xfer as well as gnome-pilot.
