Sync Problems with Outlook

I'm having trouble syncing to a work desktop running NT4 and Outlook 97, with a serial connection.

The sync is very slow, and when it gets to syncing Contacts, is even slower. Eventually it stops and I get a message that "This action cannot be complete because the "Inbox - Microsoft Outlook" program is not responding. Choose "Switch Too" and correct the problem."

I've tried this multiple times, and always get the same message. Have tried a soft reset, have closed Outlook and reopened, have checked to make sure Outlook is connected to the server. Nothing helps.

The info systems folks are stumped. Anyone have suggestions?

P.S. Everything syncs fine at home with a USB to Windows 98 and Outlook 2000.

Service Packs

Make sure you install the latest NT 4.0 & Office '97 service packs. There NT 4.0 is up to 6.0a, and Office '97 is at SP 2.0a. This seems to solve 90% of peoples synch problems.

Also, check to see if you have any old Outlook "Add Ins" installed that may be interfering. They are under "Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Settings" in Outlook 2K, so they will probably be someplace similar in '97.

As a last option, you can create a new contact list, copy your existin contacts there, delete the original list, recreate it with the same name, and copy the contacts back. This can help clear up any Outlook corruption.
