In the NY Times on Thursday they have a brief article (page 2 of the circuits section) about the smartpad 2. The ir thingy can now be moved, so it will now work with the visor. It also has some keypad to input text. Thought y'all might like to know.....

Arrow Great

This is great! I want one of these for my Visor badly. Hopefully it will fit the Prism.

Cool smart Pat Web Site

Here is their website:
http://www.seikosmart.com/

Our local compusa has them, but I have not tried it yet. If you do, let me know if it works with the visor.

Yeah, I know the website, it continues to show just the original smartpad, which does not work so well with the visor since the ir thing is fixed above the pda. The smartpad2 ,mentioned in the ny times article, has a moveable IR link, but I have seen squat about it on the website...

Wink Found Some Pictures

Looks like the IR part swings up and down depending on the palm or visor that is used. I am language challenged and cannot read the text. Hope this is here in US soon.

They should allow color support to it. There are lots of color units on the market now.

I'm interested in seeing whether they've been able to include (non-graffiti) character recognition into the PDA application for the SmartPad.

The following comments are regarding the 1st generation SmartPad:

* If my memory serves me correctly, the 1st generation SmartPad lacked character recognition for both the PDA and Desktop apps.
* The previous version digitized your writing or sketch in real-time. (Note: The constant IR usage can significantly drain the batteries.)
* The included conduit later translates the PDB into a low-resolution BMP.

IMHO, since you continue to create hard copy of your notes it almost makes more sense to scan your hard copy notes directly into your computer and not drain your PDA batteries (assuming you have access to a desktop computer and scanner). The resultant image would be at a better resolution and be easily translatable using OCR software.

Dont get me wrong, I would love to have the ability to immediately store and beam my handwritten documents using my Visor. Therefore, in order for me to try this product again, Id like to see at least one of the following: 1) non-graffiti character recognition or 2) the image stored at an improved resolution.

Even though Im pessimistic regarding their software, I am crossing my fingers with the hope theyve been able to accomplish both of my requests.
