I just wanted to post this to let those of you who haven't read this thread about the Mistake in the Sunday Adds for STAPLES that have the Handspring 8MB Flash Module for $39.97 Some have reported that their local STAPLES is not honoring the add, but most are! I just bought one yesterday, and at 50% off, how could you not want it?

thanks to dabirk, i went to staples yesterday, grabbed a flash module, went up to the counter, she rang it up for $79, i quickly referred to the flyer, she looked confused, double checked the sku number, then changed the price to the advertised price! the staples near me hadn't caught that mistake, so there was no sign about it.

woo hoo! a 8mb flash module for only $40! if i had more time on my hands, i would probably buy as many as i could and sell them to those who couldn't get them for that price.

I got mine at the Staples in Beaverton, OR!!!
$39.97, and no tax 'cause our state won't vote it in!! Thank you Staples, you just got all my accesorie purchases from now on!!!

UPDATE: Ok, now I have 4. Staples called and they got another 3 in today, and the guy knew I was looking for more for the IT department at work. Unfortunately, work decided not to re-imberse. So, they are going up for sale on E-Bay.

I wonder if Best Buy will honor the price. I bought one 3 weeks ago at BB, and this morning I found the Staples Newspaper Ad with the $39.99 price. I'll be heading over to BB later today to give it a try

It WORKED! I got ~$44.00 back from Best Buy. BB will match a competitors price plus 10% of the difference if you have bought the item within 30 days (15 days on computers,...) and you can show them the price from the local store.

Hopefully someone else can take advantage of this

Shucks, I was hoping they would make an honest man out of you. It's one thing for Staples to mistakenly print the wrong price in the Staples advertisement circular and do the stand up thing and honor their mistake even though they legally would not have to do so. But to expect or even ask Best Buy to honor the Staples mistake is something else.

Do I smell sour grapes?

Why is this dishonest? BB has the policy, I just asked them to follow it. They could of said no. So this time they didn't make any profit on the 8Meg upgrade, but they did make some on the Stowaway I purchased on the same day, and the TV/VCR I bought the week before...

I wouldn't of asked this of a friend, but a company, who's primary goal is to make money--sure

The bottom of that Staples ad (like all the others) says they are not responsible for typos, which we all know that price obviously was. I was lucky that they decided to honor the misprint for me. Just a thought...

the staples ad was NOT a mistake. They clearly had meant to do exactly what they did, as the 8MB Backup module was also listed in the add. Individual stores may have CHOSEN not to honor it, but when the person at my local store called corporate HQ to see if that was the real price they were told it was. If as a corporation they had chosen not to honor the advertised price, they would have been subject to great penalties for pulling a "bait and switch", that is, luring customers into the store with a great sale and then charging them full price for the advertised item. to further re-inforce the point that this was not a misprint by HQ, I called from work to place a supply order via their 800 number and the price was joyously honored for an order of 50 modules for my IT department. Loss leaders are a fact of life in all advertising (ask the car dealers who lure people to the lot with a vehicle $10,000 below MSRP), and this one some of us took advantage of. It got us in the store, and I'm sure several of us made other purchases at the same time.

If that price was intentional, then that would mean that most, if not all, Staples locations would have had the lower price listed on the shelf. I'm curious, did anyone see the "sale" price on the shelf tag? I doubt it.

Have you ever BEEN IN A STAPLES store??? They never post signs for the sale price on Items. Not a single item in that weeks circular was posted with a sign next to the item.
