 Question VPL to external modem

Has anyone successfully connected their Platinum to an external modem? I am using the pccables.com PDCH-M9D-6 cable with a USR sportster modem. I get a modem not found error.

I have been connecting without any problems using a Deluxe and and PDCH-M9 cable.
