Multiple devices, Multiple workstations, One Install

Hi,
Currently i'm supporting 10 Doctors with Palms, visors, etc..
Most have thier own doc station at thier desks. We have palm desktop setup with every install to the same directory on a server, this is so a Receptionist/Scheduler can make entries for each user in thier calendar and todo lists.
However with the last few releases of Palm desktop when we want to do an install onto a new workstation everyone has to be out of all apps before the update. this wasn't the case before.
What i'm asking is if anyone else has experienced this and came up with a solution, or Does anyone have a similar setup but a different configuration for the desktop apps.

Syncing works very well with the current setup and what is really nice is when a new app or database for the practice needs to be installed. This has been working for 3 years.
