Clie NR70V Users - Would you recommend it?
By: IanP @ 09:07 PM

I know this is a Handspring site but I'm finally convinced that jumping ship is the best way forward for me. Not being a heavy mobile phone user I don't see the need for a combined unit and favour the Hi-Res colour display, collapsable grafitti, integrated keyboard, upgradable OS etc.

So here's a message to all Clie NR70V users, whether you've just got it or been using it for a while, what are your thoughts? Would you recommend that I take the plunge away from my VPL?

Also, would it be possible for a clie bought in the States to be used over here in the UK without any problem. Is the OS/Software any different? Would the UK power supply still work?
I only ask cos, tax and import duties aside, this could save me around 100 at current prices and exchange rates

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Ian,

I just ordered one in the US to use down under.. it should arrive this week or early next week.

The power supply of the NR70V is supposed to be 110/220 autoswitching so you only need an adaptor piece to fit it in a UK (or Aussie for that matter) power plug.
The OS should not be an issue since there is only 1 version of English Palm OS for the clie AFAIK...

I'll let you go what I think of it in about a week..

Got it the other day, totally love it!!

The screen is great, camera and MP3 are a good bonus.

The keyboard on my PSION (actually mako but who cares) and the treo is nicer, but the virtual grafity with skins makes up for it....

Thanks ToolKit,

Do you know how the camera compares to the eyemodule (I or II)? Or, is there any chance of posting a couple of your photos here?

Also, do you know if there's a modem available yet? As much as I won't be looking at the "communicators" like the Treo, I still find it useful to be able to connect to the office vpn using my xircom springport.

thanks

IAn

I think it is about the same.. 320x240 max, not really great but nice for a quick snapshot...
I'll try to post some pics tommorow..

No modems AFAIK but I could be wrong... however there is a BlueTooth MS for sale (only in japan I believe but I read about people buying them online..)

Ian, I know this isn't what this thread is about, but what vpn software do you use for your VPL and are you happy with it? Thanks.

By: IanP @ 05:04 PM

Hi Heed,

I'm using movian vpn which works a treat with our CheckPoint Firewall-1 allowing me to view our intranet and retrieve (pop/imap) mail from our exchange server.

Don't mind me
By: K. Cannon @ 02:41 PM

I'm not a Clie owner, but my brother-in-law and sister just got themselves NR70V's and from my drooling, clutchy experience with them, I am very impressed.

The camera seemed better than my EyeModule (ToolKit--cool pics). But I think it's the high resolution that I liked the most. It made my Prism seem very pixel-y when I turned it back on.

When I am forced to move to another PDA brand(which, like many others, I am suspicious that I am going to have to do), the Sony is top of my list.

Just some thoughts from a non-owner
