Anyone else having trouble with Windows 2000?

I'm getting the error message:

"An error occured during the installation of the device"

"The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance"

Any idea what the heck that means?

I've emailed tech support, no response yet.

Same problem here, running Professional build 2176.

Rumor has it that Handspring has a note on their site that says they won't release a driver until Win2K goes gold. However, I looked last night and couldn't find anything. Let us know what ya find out, I'd love to sync before the new year

Unhappy

Wow!

You could've knocked me over with a feather. Someone actually replyed to my long lost win2000 post. Thanks for the info, and FYI:

Handspring has never responded to any of my three seperate email requests concerning this.

So much for great tech support.

Dave

sdavida, I've had the same problem, tech support won't answer anything!

But, here's what I tried (that didn't work). I've not used a lot of USB stuff, so I don't know all the details about it. I've got a connector, that I got with a mouse, that converts USB to PS2, then I've got another one that converts PS2 to Serial. I tried to piggyback those converters to get the USB cradle to sync with Win2K through the serial port, but nothing worked. I know it's not the port, but my little 'workaround' wouldn't cooperate. Oh well, I guess I'll be able to sync in Feb. when Win2K goes gold (if that's how long they wait for the drivers), or if/when my backordered serial cradle gets here. We'll see....

Exclamation

For what it's worth... I can't get it to work in Win2000 either. I get the same error message.

Not a flame, but I just find it odd that one would expect Win2000 compatibility with anything considering it's just a beta. On the other hand I hope Handspring isn't one of those companies who seems to wait until the final version is nearly released before starting to develop the drivers, thus delaying the release of their drivers by months.

I've been running Version 5.0.2195 for a couple weeks, I would hope the USB driver will be released Feb 17th?

We couldn't be THAT lucky..

Question Problem resurfaces

I am reviving this long-silent thread because I have run into this exact error on my brand-new Dell Optiplex GX400. I have had no problems with Handspring USB drivers on two previous Dell PCs running Windows 2000. However, this PC has four, count 'em four USB ports on board, and in Device Manager it lists two USB controllers and two root hubs. I have run through all the standard USB troubleshooting procedures to no avail. I have run Dell and Handspring USB registry-scrubbers. I have no other hubs or other USB devices plugged in.

Any suggestions?

I e-mailed HS Tech Support. They sent me some standard USB troubleshooting stuff that didn't work, but which DID say that Palm Desktop 3.02H was ok. After that failed, I called HS and the Support Rep told me right away to remove everything, install Palm Desktop 4.01H, and try again. That fixed it. He says 3.02H has problems in Windows 2000, sometimes.
