Just wondering what other sysadmins think
are the essentials they need on the visor.
Here is what I have:

1) efig diagnostics module
2) stowaway keyboard
3) IP Calc (www.ajw.com)
4) GNU Keyring (open source password manager)
5) L0pht's Cisco Password cracker
6) good vt100 emulator
(I actually don't know which one is best
yet, using ptelnet, pilotvt100,Online, and
the one that comes with the diagnostics mod)

Any others?

I have tried PalmVNC with limited success, I can not seem to get it to work on the latest version of VNC, but older versions do seem to work with a few problems (one or two Dr Watson's), of course screen size is an issue but all in all if I can get it to work with the newer version of VNC I'll be thrilled, very cool to control Win2K server from a visor.... If anyone has any ifor on using it with the new VNC I'd like to hear it.

Hey KypDurron:

Where do you get most of the programs you listed? I haven't seen them around, and I certainly can't find them on Palmgear. THanks

I agree it would be great to reference web site when recommending product.

Sftwr I couldn't live without:

1. IT-Trac tracks ip address, server names, workstation info etc. Great product I no longer have to carry around the big 3 ring binder. Does not have Desktop interface so you need someway to backup, springboard or something. site: www.it-trac.com Sorry can't remember price.

2. HourzPro - www.zoskware.com $49.95
Great billing prgm. Uses timer function, start/stop multi timers. Will export directly into Quickbooks Pro. Creates .iif files. This product alone paid for my VDX in the first month due to more efficient billing.

3. Action Names www.iambic.com $19.95
Great enhancement to datebook+

I haven't found a really good vt100 emulator yet, but I'm still looking. The best so far has been ptelnet: it does vt100 with a variety of font sizes and screen widths. The only problem is that while there's a F-keys popup there's no cursor keys popup. Using the gotype keyboard, the gotype keys send an unfortunate set of control characters instead of vt100 escape sequences.

The top gun clients don't give you a "raw mode" interface at all, so it's useless from the keyboard. Which is a shame, because I really need to use ssh.

The dedicated vt100 clients don't provide a telnet interface.

What are other people using?

Does anyone have any knowledge of how to get PalmVNC to work without a modem; i.e., in the USB cradle?
